I left Canada three years ago. In 2021 most of the milsurp that was pop up all the time on EE was: Russian SKS, SVT, Mauser Russian Capture, Steyr M95, Mosin refile, carbines all variants.
Now I am back to Canada from the end of 2024 and I noticed that SVT almost is no longer for sale, Mosin carbines are gone in vaults. The surprise for today market si a lot of Garands and Lee Enfiels are showing up on EE. Chinese SKS make sense because dealers are full of them. Swedish rifles also are changing hand non stop look like. Also the Swiss rifles flow is unstoppable , look like are millions made.

I don't see the same volume or variety on the EE anymore in the milsurp, rimfire, or blackpowder sections. Maybe that's just me?
No thats accurate.

I remember when I started on the EE in around 2014. Tons of different offerings regularly available. It was nice because you could say buy a M39 Mosin for 300$ one month, resell it for 300$ the next month and buy another one for 300$ the month after that.

Now not nearly as much variety comes available and what does it substantially higher in price. Can’t even recall the last M39 I saw for sale.

I don’t remember $300 m39’s ever. When collector’s source imported almost all the examples in Canada around 10 yrs ago, they were 750-850 each depending on the rifle. They have only gone up since then.

There was plenty in Canada before Collectors Source brought some in. Finnish Mosins have been on the market for decades, often longer than the Soviet variants. When the 750-850 examples came in magically the price on every other one already on the market matched them.

Much like the P38s in country. You used to be able to buy a all matching P38 with holster and spare mag for 400$. Then the Russia capture examples came in at 700$ and magically the other ones were 700$+.

I would tend to agree with you on that one. Had a cousin in Nevada that got tight for funds. I took 2 off him for 800 IIRC. This a solid 15 years back...they were expensive and rare then.
But then again...I might not be remembering the same reality as other folks.

Check out gun.post, asking prices are higher, but it's more like a flea market and guys negotiate.

The EE on CGN is as of late is extremely slow with few serious buyers.
The hobby isn't what it was 5 years ago.

Even low priced bread and butter guns sit for days even when the price is good.

Poor and expensive service from Canada post is another factor stopping people.

Also people's discretionary spending is being watched more closely I think.
They mull over a $500 rifle like it's a new car purchase

I bought my M39 from a local shop (in Bancroft) in the early 90's for less than 100 bucks. Came out of International Firearms (I think). SKY marked- Sako barrel. A great cast bullet shooter. Still have it!

People don’t have as much discretionary money any more. A easy example is when I started collecting my bills and rent (including car costs, food, etc.) were all covered by one paycheque. My second cheque was discretionary.

Fast forward to today if I worked that same job and had that same apartment it would take most my second cheque as well to cover it due to the increase in cost of living. To add to that milsurps have increased substantially in that same time period. Firearms I bought for 300$ a decade ago are worth in some cases 4-6 times that amount.

That doesn’t add up to a ton of extra spending money and what little you do have you have to think carefully on what you spend it on.

One thing I have noticed about selling guns ,stuff under $500 seems to sell quicker than stuff over $500. People are currently watching what they spend lately. Everything is going up in price quicker than previously. A lot I see on GP and EE is over priced anyway. A good deal comes along and I jump on it. I just picked up a Hungarian 44 Mosin for $300 needing a butt plate and cleaning rod. Ad was up under 20 minutes. By the time I picked it up about 1 1/2 hours later he had over 12 more replies even with the ad marked SPF. Money it tight for a lot of people. Part of the price problem is people see something priced high and they think their item is worth that or more. Monkey see monkey do. If it’s a good price it sells quickly instead of getting bumped for months or more.

EE unfortunately also promotes survivor bias, in that the ads which remain can create a false sense of norm. If there were 10 ads for a Lee Enfield, 8 of which where sweet deals, a guy checking a week from now will only see 2 ads for higher prices, because he probably never saw the other 8. They'd be snapped up real quick. Most of my great buys were because I checked EE and happened to be at the right place at the right time.

The 2 hypothetical rifles that might be overpriced might create a false sense of what the market it. "Well if Bob is selling for 950, then mine must be 950 too".

I'm glad I got into buying milsurp about 15 years ago, in the days of the $100 Mosin, SKS for 225 shipped with ammo, No1Mkiii for 300.

100% correct.

Thank a Liberal. Lot's of Liberal firearms owners on Gunnutz.

And do not try to argue with a stupid Liberal, you will be called a racist, xenophobe, or a misogynist!........:) LOL

Gunnutz seems to be dying a slow death. It's a crying shame indeed..........:(

I joined over 17 years ago, it's too bad we have come to this communistic day and age.

17 years from now, our firearms may only be seen in a museum.
