The Eyes Are Always The Second Thing To Go...

That's a can of worms too RedDuc. I never cheap out on glass, but I never go to the high end either for exactly your reasons - my eyes can't tell the difference between a Leupold or a Zeiss.

Sounds like S&B might be out of my price range...

How bad are your eyes?

The folks at Decot made me a pair of glasses with the right lens "weakened by a factor of 1/2 of my "reading strength" requirement. Yes, this was for a pair of glasses for long range correction. I can, therefore, still get a clear front sight picture and, as your brain apparently compensates for minor variances, I don't notice any difference when it comes to LD viewing. Anyhow, as my memory is going faster than my eyesight, you'd best give Decot a call;

They're very helpful and know a lot more about a shooter's requirements than your local optometrist is likely to. They've certainly helped me, maybe they can do the same for you.
