The F word, fouling at its worst!!! this sucks

I saw a Ruger MkII have the same issue once at my range. Shots were actually key-holing at 10 yards!! Guy took it home and cleaned it and brought a chunk of lead to the range to show everyone what he took out of the barrel. I was surprised it even shot with that in there.

Incredible!

Makes sense. Now I'm paranoid and have to go check my MK II for fouling. I don't clean it often enuf.

Matter fact, I'm guessing that this is prolly a common occurence with all waxed bullets, we just never experience the symptoms. Most of us'll shoot 100-200 rounds and then clean the gun out, never giving the wax a chance to create the havoc seen on this thread....

That's one thing I love about the 22 Mag, actual copper-jackets. I'd love to find some in 22 LR

Although I dislike Remington ammo, I found 22lr ammo made by Remington thats copper jacketed for a good price, 500 for 19.99 at bass pro. Might as well try it and give you guys the verdict.

I don't know about the wax verdict. Eley, Lapua, and pretty much every match ammunition I shoot has a wax coating and I don't have accuracy issues with it. It is possible that remington may have screwed up their recipe (i.e. substituted something different as a coating which may not have tested well or even the changed the powder - maybe the bullet is actually melting???) That being said I have had good luck with any of Remington's rimfire ammunition (Thunderbolts, Yellow Jackets, or Cyclones) all poorly manufacutured. I remember one brick of YJ that the bullets fell out of the case, total crap. Winchester or CCI makes the best "cheap" 22 ammo in my experience.

I've shot wax lubed CCI SV rounds from one of my pistols for a few thousand rounds now. The barrel never did anything like that Ruger did. In my case after about 500 to 600 rounds the powder residue fouling begins to slow down the slide and I get FTE's and that tells me it's time to do a quick top end cleaning. The darn thing is that on that pistol, my other two .22 pistols and the rifle I have I've never had anything that looks like lead shavings come out any of the barrels despite shooting a variety of plated, non plated, waxed and non waxed rounds. So I can't help but think that there's something very specific that causes this sort of lead fouling. And I seriously doubt that it's the wax coating on some ammo. The wax just is not that hard.

If those are the "Golden's" you are referring to, they have their own "issues"....;)...but I still love using them for plinking in my bolt-action rifles. :)

Remember when they were $13.99/box? :(

I took out my target 10/22 and did not run into as a sever issue using the same ammo, but they werent feeding right after about 250 shots. My accuracy was still there though, my regular 10/22 is what runs into the whole sever fouling problems, and there are no issues with the barrel at all, no scrapes, pitting, or gouges at all in the rifling.

I think people have basically "caught-on" to the idea that "jacketed" HP is generalyl better for the cleanliness of their semi-auto's...;)

I can only find the round-nosed stuff these days! :p

You sure these are jacketed and not just "copper-coloured". After seeing 22Mag's with bonafide, shiny & gleaming copper jackets, I fell in love. I've since searched high'n low for real jacketed bullets in 22LR & can't find any.

If anyone knows of a manufacturer of said jacketed cartridges, lemme know and I'll have craploads of assorted 22 ammo for sale real cheap...
