I am the current custodian of a FEG O/U 12 guage, IM/IC, 26" barrels. I say "current custodian", because I think this gun will be around for many years to come. To be sure, it is robustly built, and very nice to shoot. While I am sure FEGs will never enjoy "best" gun status, I am becoming convinced they represent wonderful value for money, and I believe I am understating their worth.

What I have found curious is the lack of a central repository of information. I guess that is not surprising for what was an inexpensive combloc gun. So what I had a mind to start was a thread that would capture information about FEGs beyond what's on Wikipedia and a few threads on various forums. If you wish to add to the "body of knowledge" for other shotgunners who are interested in FEGs, this is the place. I had a mind to doing this on another shotgun forum, but I think Canadians have more experience with FEG that those south of the border.

Contributions are open to the models, opinions, history, experiences, maintenance, parts sources, pictures, or any tips or tricks regarding FEG shotguns.

Thanks in advance for contributing.

Hi there,

My dad has an O/U double trigger FEG that he used for years for upland game and waterfowl hunting. He had the chokes opened up when non-toxic shot became available. The only thing that went wrong with the gun was one firing pin which has long been since replaced (from a supplier in Ontario?).

I was browsing through TradeEx and they have a few FEG shotguns... the first firearm I cannot find a YouTube video on! So little information on these Hungarian shotguns.

They are inexpensive com bloc only for western buyer, remember from my experience that in my country in comunist past guns made for export in the West was made with the best materials and craftmanship.

Their quite simple to pull down, push in button/plunger at the front of the forestock and off it pop's, push lever to open up action and the barrel's will come off in your hand.
Mine has cocked chamber indicator's and when I fire a round will eject the spent casing. If it hasn't been fired it'll just extract the shell.

I guess I'll find out when I get my FEG SxS from TradeEx. I've never handled a SxS shotgun before... are all SxS shotguns mostly the same takedown?

I like mine,it even has the stock cast off to the right for easier handeling. In my experiance the front trigger is the right barrel, the rear the left barrel.come's with swivel's.
Nice blueing and pretty well fitted. No recoil pad on mine tho.
They are used, but,at least in my case, not abused.

Any pics you could post? I'd love to see this SxS.

If you meant whether the takedown procedure is the same for all SXS shotguns, it is mostly similar. However, the design/placement of the lever that facilitates the opening of the breech and/or removal of the barrels from the receiver can be different. Variations of levers may be in the form of top lever, side lever, under lever etc. Moreover, the fore end release design could be different based on brand/manufacturer.

Exception - The French Darne SxS has a toggle action that facilitates the opening of the (sliding) breech much like the action on a Luger pistol. The fore end is also integral to the stock like that of a rifle, for example. The take down procedure is different too. Some American made SxS brand(s) may have the fore end attached to the barrels via a screw and will require the removal of that screw prior to take down.

Google for visuals on all of the above.

Anyone know if all FEGs are cast right?
