I thought it interesting ,and that i would bring it to the attention of members of CGN,that the FN Browning Model 1910 7.65mm is in limited service with the Canadian Forces.Approx 192 of these pistol were acquired in 1970 and issued to senior officers,mainly in Europe during the Cold War. I would be interested if any serving or former member of the Canadian Forces has ever seen or fired one, i think it's a interesting ,but not common knowledge that the Forces have these handy little pistols.Your input would be most interesting, Thanks

In the main text of "Canadian Military Handguns, 1855-1985", Clive Law gives the acquisition date as 1974, but the summary table in Appendix B gives the period of service as "1970-present" .....

The dates in the summary table were thrown together at the last minute. They should not be viewed as being more accurate than the main text which is the definitve portion of the book. I fact, only seven people have ever read the Annexes and Grant is one of them.

Most of them were in Ottawa at NDHQ. I've inspected and repaired them when I was at Base maintenance at Uplands. I never had a chance to shoot one but I wasn't overly concerned either. FWIW NDHQ also had 2 S&W Centennials as well that had been acquired at one time for use by the CDS. I would like to know what happened to all of the Colt Cobras and Smith M36's that used to be there as well. We could work on the Colts if they were broken, but all we could do with the S&W's was inspection. If something was busted we had to send it to Gunco because we weren't allowed to open them up.
