The FN FS2000: Thoughts, observations, and range report

That actually looks REALLY good with the tri-rail mount!

In fact that changes the look so much I'd actually consider getting one :D

A mixture of the FAMAS in a wind tunnel and Logans Run ;)

Nah, FA MAS has style, the sleek bullpups of today just lack the seriousness of the FA MAS with their plastic receivers and aerodynamic design. You see a someone with a FA MAS, you know not to mess with him; you see someone with a F2000, you think it is some toy space gun.

Same argument was made in the 60's for the 'Mattel'16 and AR's turned out to have a utility usage way past the FA MAS, as did the AUG from the 70's for that matter. We'll just have to see if the bite will live up to the bark.

Except that with the FAMAS, you know the guy is carrying a long obsolete system that has little room for expansion and can't even shoot the standard ammo used by allies.

Just shot an FS 2000 a couple of days ago; it had an Eotech and a folding VFG and was painted in a very respectable imitation of Crye Multicam, but otherwise my impressions are pretty much identical. The trigger wasn't spectacular but quite acceptable, and I imagine you could get used to the mag release...

I'd love to see an animated view of how the FN2000 works. Definitely a wierd gun.

So it actually kicks the brass forward by shoving it down a tube above the barrel, where it falls out of the gun?

My personal opninon is that the FN2000, ergonomically, is a pretty good rifle for general purpose as a line infantry rifle. It is very well balanced and integrated with the GL module. However, field stripping that thing is not exactly what I will call "KISS". For "gun fighting" rifle, I will stick with something more compactly packaged like AR. The FN2000 has lots of "air and space" enclosed under the plastic skin.

FN2000 drives like a Hummer, and the AR drives like a Subaru TWR.

I edited the original post with some additional pictures of the ejection process.

I'd agree with your assessment --the field stripping is better than, say an M14, but definitely fussier than with an AR. I don't know why there is so much empty space in the stock -- especially in the butt. Maybe the bottom portion of the butt portion is low to prevent flexing in the butt stock? There's plenty of space below the hammer group...maybe I use it to store a flask or a box of Smarties.
