The FN PS90: Initial thoughts, observations and range report

The issue with the PS90 is that it's hard to find one. It took me almost a year to find one with a decent price. I switched myself the 16'' barrel for a 10.4'' CMMG barrel and used it last Friday for the fist time and I was charmed. To the 5.7x28 lovers, SFRC as ammo in stock for a real good price.

Two of my favorite "blackies" as well! In my case the PS90 has the sight tube/post through the top rail, and the FS2000 has the factory 1.6X scope concealed under the plastic top panel. Master-G's green FS2K makes me drool a little bit...so nice, and hard to find!

Nice family picture! You don't see many FS2000s with the factory optic.

^ The PS90 has near-perfect compact dimensions for Canadian NR status: with an 18.5" barrel and no flash hider, it measures out to ~26.2" OAL.

With the 10.3" barrel, it becomes truly diminutive. In Master-G's side photos of the PS90, you can see that the magazine runs the majority of the length of the rifle, which is amazing when you consider the magazine is just under 11" long.

SHHHHHHHHH ABOUT THE AMMO! :p

I have both the FS2000 and the PS90. My daughters like the PS90 as there is hardly any kick and they group really well with it. I agree about the price of ammunition, but it has come down over the years if you know where to look.

So I learned today that, despite my earlier assumptions, there is a bolt hold open (of sorts) on the PS90. What you do is remove the magazine, then retract the bolt and hold it to the rear while you flip up and fully close the dust cover dealy in the ejection port—this thing:

You let let the bolt go forward and it catches on a protrusion on the dust cover. To release it, just pull the bolt handle back and let 'er go.

Apparently FN used to include this tip the the accompanying documentation but I'm thinking they don't any more because I'm betting you can release the bolt with a sharp bump to the gun. I'll try this next time at the range—I find inserting a "fully" loaded mag difficult to do on a closed bolt as they all seemed to be pinned to 5.000 rounds with no slack in them at all.
