The grand old .375 H&H

I have only done a limited amount of experimenting with my .375. It really likes RL15 and and bullets from 250-270 grains. It is not so happy with lighter bullets or IMR 3031. I want to try H4350 and 300's but have not got around to it yet. I have used Fed 215's and Win WLR primers with no apparent difference so far.

So after all this time... I now know the COL my gun likes with the 300 grain Accubonds, and I know that IMR 4895 and Varget are only good for 1.5 MOA. H4895 was a bit better at just over MOA, best results were still IMR 4064 at just under MOA. Currently have some loads made with IMR 4320 and IMR 4007 SSC, we'll see how they shoot... Also, after a year of waiting, I have finally found some R15! Trying that next.

Might not look like I've gotten much accomplished in the past 10 months or so of load testing, but I've got several other rifles on the go right now, including a .416 Rigby, that I'm load testing with.
 
Shot the new loads today... The results of the 4320 and 4007 were less than thrilling, both approaching 2 inches. Worst results with the rifle yet. Waitin' on that R15...

My rifles didn't like the 300 ABs either, if I have some left, I'll check, you're welcome to them..............You're in luck I've got 30 left in a box........if that's of any use to you PM me your address and I'll send them to you.

I'm working with some 285 gn from Marshal @ Matrix, if they shoot well that will be my top choice for the 375 Wby and likely one of my H&Hs

You found some RL-15. Your a lucky man to have acquired some as it is virtually non existent on retailers shelves with little to no hope of seeing any in the near or distant future. It does seem to be the powder of preference these days for the .375.

Thank you, I appreciate your kind offer, I would love to have them, but I'm in Vancouver, might be kinda expensive to ship from Whitehorse...?

I have one, it shoots like a house afire with accubonds 260gr and 73.5gr RE-15. It is a do all rifle, however it is a bit on the heavy side, around 10lbs with a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10. It will hold 5 rounds in the box magazine, (actually 6) and one up the pipe if U want to lock and load that way. It has a two way trigger, in that when U are locked and loaded, U push the trigger forward until it clicks and U now have a hair target trigger. Very nice and it brakes clean. Recoil is a pussycat and anybody can handle it. My chrono experience shows anywhere from 50 to 100 FPS faster with published reloads for all rounds tested, I must have a faster barrel. I have noticed however, a lot of copper fouling after shooting. Your mileage may vary

I second that. I have one of these as well in .416 Rigby, it is a lovely rifle and amazingly accurate.
 
I have a Lux and a American stocked 375 CZ . like them both.They both shoot the 80 grain round ball with 5 grains unique for grouse and rabbit, up to the 350 grain woodleigh with 72 grains R19 at 2275 fps. Same point of aim at 25 yards. How's that for fun.

R15 produced the worst results yet. Best were still from IMR4064, at just under MOA. Will be trying some different bullets as soon as I can find them... 300 grain Barnes TSX, Nosler Partition, and possibly Speer Grand Slam.
 
Unless you're planning an exotic trip I would consider 250gr SGK. Or the 300 SGK. Either would be a fine bullet in North America. I believe they used to offer a 270gr SGK but I haven't seen them listed. You might happen onto them on a dusty shelf if you're lucky.

Sub 1/2 MOA is asking a lot from any sporting rifle, particularly a moderately exuberant one. If you're sub MOA you could consider yourself satisfied, though I can't fault anyone for trying to squeeze them as close together as they can.
 
Update: Switched bullets. Wasn't planning to go lighter, but decided to try 270 gr. Barnes TSX. Initial results were great, just over half inch at 100 with R15, the powder that gave me terrible results with the Accubond. Already made more to try again, if the results are duplicated I will post pics. Yay!

P.S. the TSX's are coming out at about 2750 fps. Nice trajectory, and great accuracy to boot!
