The grange gun club review? Help!!

I'm a member at both the Grange and Sharon GC. They are both very expensive, but if you are north of TO or in the east end there is nothing else comparable close by. As a family man I like to be able to pop down to Target Sports after work for 100 rds of group therapy and make it back home in about an hour.

If you're in the East end, Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club is close by. It take me 40 minutes from Highway 7 and Warden to get to the club, almost the same amount of time as getting to The Grange.

Not saying one is better - Grange is indoors, which is REALLY nice, but at OSGC I can shoot up to 300 yds and they're open 7 days a week (outdoors).

Sounds great, but I am less than 15 min. from either of my clubs. If time wasn't as short as it is I would definitely consider it.

From what I'm reading off their site, it's rifles only? Is this correct?
And do they allow guest shooters? That's the only thing I like about TSC. I can walk in with my firearms any time and get a day pass for $40.
But I hate that I can't shoot larger rifle calibers. (I'd love to get another SKS).

Oshawa was non-restricted only... But it's now approved for restricted stuff including handguns. Shoot from 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300m. Next best thing for us besides Sharon. I like Oshawa a lot. Been a member for a year now. Shotgun facilities is pretty impressive but I'm not a shotgun guy.

Yes, you're allowed guests (a member can bring a guest). They say up to 3 visits but I doubt they keep count. I think it's $20 or $30. I forget now.

Membership is quite fair at around $230/year... after the painful one time init fee of about $250.

I was at The Grange for the first time yesterday around noon, and the air quality didn't bother me at all. None of the horror stories (layer of lead dust on everything, discoloured snot, headache) -- and I had *plenty* of snot-checking (stupid cold)

Good to know it's approved for restricted. I noticed the website says no prohib though.

And what I meant was not can I bring a guest, but do they have range passes for people who are NOT members. At TSC, anyone with a firearms license and their own firearms can walk in off the street and use the range facilities for $40. (a day pass).
That's really what keeps me going back. I shoot once a month, sometimes less, so it doesn't make sense financially to spend $700 or more on a membership....
However, it sucks being able to shoot nothing bigger than handgun calibers. I don't even know if you can shoot .50ae there..

Hmmm... I have no idea about drop-ins. Only other place I know of is Silverdale and I guess you know that too. Which club to you belong to right now?

I'm not a member at a club. I pay for a day pass at TSC when I go. As I mentioned earlier, i shoot MAYBE once a month. That's $480 if I shoot every month (and I honestly don't....I know I'm bad...) The year membership is nearly TWICE that. No way I'm paying it.
A price more around $400-500, MAYBE.
I'll have to look into what all is involved in becoming a member out at the ajax range.
Silverdale is too far. I can't drive 2 hours to a range.

my thoughts EXACTLY. i'm new to the sport so i will likely get a membership to TSC for the first year, but i can't see myself going that often after that. but then again i love the idea i can do when i want for an hour or something. i feel if i paid 40 each time i would be obligated to stay at least 3 hours or more to get my monies worth.

i would love silverdale, but 2 hours each way, no thanks. i'm looking into sharon as it's a bit further north of tsc, but 400 a year.

If I were a casual shooter and belong to no club, will the CFO issue STATT each time I drop in to club? I guess it's possible. Too much hassle for me. I still like the luxury of going whenever I want. I try to shoot at least 2x a month to get my $$$'s worth.

I go when ever I want. I just purchase a day pass when I get there for $40.
I spend a maximum of $480 per year (less) instead of the $700+ for the membership!

not really.. your only can go when your temp. ATT allows you to.. and most likely forget transporting when it's dark outside.. daylight hours are getting shorter and shorter by the day :).

:onCrack: ? Do you know what a LTATT is ? Also even a TATT is good for 24 hours...You were right about one thing though, the days are getting shorter. Those who want a LTATT so they can go to clubs join a national gun club like silver core.

will look into what LTATT is.. never needed one (of course, damn abbreviation.. I always had one and always just called it ATT ..LOL), but all my STATTs in the past I have requested were good for 24 hours, 72 hours and once even for 30 days to visit gunsmith, but all of them had a specific provision stating that actual transport only allowed during daylight hours and not round the clock during the time frame STATT was good for.

..anyway back on topic.. Grange is a decent club and Target is a nice shooting facility.. one of not so many in close proximity to GTA which still allow walk-on shooters.
