Gentlemen,
First of all this data is for HARD CORPS M1 GARAND GUYS. If your not into the M1 Garand's History don't read on. TIA
This is a very hard topic to cover with just a few files that I can post. Here you will read about problems with the M1/M2 Ball ammo for the M1 Garand. I have the files that show how M1 Ball ammo (old) was Ordered NOT to BE USED IN THE M1 GARAND. Some of the older guys know about some of this files. I am bring it back for all you new people. Read the data and tell me if you wish me to cover this set of files posted for you to understand what was going on. Ordnance had the M1 Garand but the problem was ammo for it.

As I understand it, more API rounds were shot out of garande in WW2 than M2 rounds by a wide margin. aparently the API killed just fine and ALSO would kill light vehicles, engine blocks, etc.
 
Another interesting note about M2 ammo:
The M1941 Johnson Rifle has marked on its rear sight M2, meaning the sights are calibrated for M2 ammo.
