The Great Survival Rifle / Pack Rifle Experiment of 2016/17

The obvious candidate is the Browning SA-22, or if not confined to .22, something like one of the old .22Mag over 16G break-open combos.

Get the Leupold base that mounts on the barrel, but does not overhang the action, and fit a LER scope such as the M8 2x or a red dot sight. The old ARMSON OEG with tritium illumination has probably never been bettered, although you can't send them south for a new tritium charge anymore.

Any take-down with the scope mounted on the receiver is going to be inherently inaccurate past a certain point.
