The GSG 16 modification thread

I have the same handguard. And the same problem. :)

Believe it or not, I bodged some thin foam in there, then took up the space with a piece of shelving I snatched from the IKEA spare parts bin on my last visit there. It's about 90% of the way to being right, but if anyone happens to come up with a 3D printed solution, I'd happily throw some dinero their way...

I designed/3d printed a handguard that utilizes both screw holes for the original handguard. Fits nice and snug. I also designed/printed the stock :)
Both parts are wrapped in fiberglass for some added strength

how does your handguard attach to the back (thicker) end? (Compression fit?)

Also, dang you need the conversion kit ;)

It does fit over the receiver, but there is actually a screw hole in the steel "collar" that the barrel goes through, so I utilized that - screw hole is at the bottom of the handguard.

I've also got some more parts in the works (charging tube replacement, trigger housing, rear sight). Once I have time I'll have my own conversion kit :)

But for all the work I put in, the Dlask barrel is what makes the biggest difference in my opinion...Now if my range would just open up...

For anyone curious, I'm currently working on a rear attach point design that would allow most airsoft grips with 'open ended' attachment point (bottom part) to work with the GSG platform (top part).

Here's what I have now (the orange block).

I started the design to mimic the actual whole attachment point, to which I will now do a negative of the 'open ended' one on the airsoft grip. The end result would be to be able to sleeve this block over the open ended point and epoxy it in place, thus maximizing the mating surfaces. This would keep the receiver(s) parts intact.

As soon as I'm satisfied with the sleeve, I'll post it up for folks who want to get a more easily attainable 'airsoft grip' for their gsg.

Maximum 'pew' mode :)

Its 20$ for the proper mp5 lower. Sorry to high jack it.

I still have 3 of them lower from way back when.

Fixed stock.

Pinned collapsible stock. Well technically not pinned but rather the adjusting mechanism is welded locked.

The problem with an epoxied in block is that the front take down pin is try to pull the lower forward, and the rear take down blcok if it is not epoxied in at the right spot. The stock is try to pull it to the rear breaking off the front take down ears.

I have been there and done that, thats why when i went back to Hong Kong, i brought 10 lowers back, some for friends and most for R&D.

I'm really interested if this can work I love the look of the old MP5 mags

It should, well, rather the model will 'work'. It's the material/fabrication process after that will dictate the level of success/reliability. PLA is a no-go as it might be a little too brittle, PETG is probably ok since it can flex a little before failing. ABS would probably the best.

Ideally I'd have an mp40 mag to actually see how they are, but I think that using a -16 mag would also work.

Just bought this guy off of a member here for a birthday present for myself. Currently working on securing the rail delete and aligning/mounting the drum sight. SO KEWL! Gonna destroy some gophers this year!

^^ nice purchase.

I'm starting that classic MP5 straight mag body 3d thing now...

also, damn that wood looks nice! Might be a future project.

There are a few airsoft mp5s out there with legit wood furniture like that I'm tempted to buy one just for it lol

Poor man's "HK" front sight:

For those that can't get their hands on a conversion kit... this just compression fits on the OEM/GSG16 sight blades (PETG has enough bend to clip on the post and it won't fall off). Uses the OEM front post (orange one in pic is for testing theories)

First printed version in crapola mode, revisions will be better, of course.

The only reason I'm not just filing the -16 front post blades off and replacing it entirely is to keep it mint since I might sell it off.

Huh, while playing around with various bits and pieces, it doesnt look that bad with the -16 charging tube.

I guess the handguard/grip/solid stock do help though..

(Bottom pic is how far you get go without getting a conversion kit: sight hood, rear sight, shaved grip, shaved receiver, shaved safety)
