The GSG 16 modification thread

Looks great! Did you have to split the clamshell to fit the top rail filler? I have 2 coming in as well! :)

Yes, it is the only way.

The rails are extremely close tolerance, there are tabs underneath that need to be pushed into one half of the case before rejoining the cases.

I could not split the cases as I forgot to slide the cocking tub off first. Make sure you put grease on that little spring behind the bolt as it helps keep it in place.

Really enjoying this platform, curious how much an alloy case deisgn would have been, as my son's GSG STG44 is a tank, but the plastic case seems fine.

Thanks for the reply!

It is a very enjoyable semi .22 and like many I always wanted an MP5ish gun.

I would love to see an aluminum receiver premium version!

Randy, that looks amazing! Did you do any sanding or other modifications to the rear rail? It does look like you removed the original rear sight block. The picture from top down looks so seamless.

Did you test out the sights to see how well the front and rear line up?

I can’t wait for the two DTB covers that I ordered to get here.

I would also upgrade to a metal receiver version in a heartbeat. It would feel much more substantial, though the polymer version seems to function fine.

I did file the rear sight block to fit the drum sight keeping it low as possible. There was a bit of sanding required as I asked for a rail that went right to rear sight block. Also built up the rear sight block with JB Weld to get a near perfect profile with the metal sight. There is no real gap and DTB's rail cover actually added rigidity to the split cases, as it has beefy tabs that fit within the under receiver case grooves, 10x better then the brass inserts and plastic picatinny rails.

Now I have not shot it yet, my laser bore sighter shows the front and rear sights to be very close for alignment, but I intend to use a scope and or red dot anyways, with the irons as backup. The 4 claw optic mount actually pulls the case haves together against the DTB filler rail, the whole package with the shorter barrel which even applies less case stress due to the barrel shortness and with less the faux suppressor length, has really firmed everything up.

All in all, DTB's rail system adds rigidity to the case halves.

Im very happy to hear the part worked for you! Looks awesome too!

One question, i noticed at the back near the rear sight its not 100% flush with the filler.

Is that simply due to the rear sight and how you had modified it to fit? or is the filler not allowing for it? I know on my gsg its 100% flush so I wanted to know if i should loosen the tolerances

Yes you will, I designed it so its sandwiched in the upper, should be nice and snug.

Here is a early pic of how its essentially mounted :)

Wow that looks great! I don’t think I had seen that angle before. Can’t wait to get it mounted and put the rear drum on.

Thanks again for designing and making these available to us less tech savvy!
:)

You designed it correctly, I removed some material from the sight base so there was a slight space, no issues really is a great addition.

Thanks
Randy

Awesome, thanks!

Where is the dancing banana emoji? My GSG replacement should be here tomorrow.

Can't wait to install DTB rail delete. Been looking at the broken GSG for awhile now being a SAD panda. The day I got my 9" dlask barrel back, was the day the ranges were shut down. Now they open and still a box of parts.

What broke on your GSG?

What broke on your GSG?

I said many times in this thread. That I over shaved the receiver, then there some screws holes starting to strip ( being over tightened ) and noticed a piece broken off around the mag release. I put in a service ticket with BL and haven't heard of anything. So I was forced to buy a another gun just for the receiver. May been a middle finger due to the GSG kit.

Actually I'm waiting for a correction rail delete to be printed. Figure do it proper and take it apart once.

Mocking up with my broken receiver, the rail delete I got from DTB, just won't work with the mount I purchased. It teeters due to the channel isn't cut wide or deep enough for the anti cant piece.

Reason why I chose this mount over the other. Wider contact patch ( I got 2 other of these mounts some wheres over the Pacific )

Thanks, the rail DTB made me is very low which allowed for me to install my claw mount as it is flush fitting. Sorry about bringing up the over shaving issue, I honestly forgot. :(

Yeah got him making me one with some slight changes. I still wanted the curve and the groove, just no square notched part. Oh well lessons learned.
