The GSG 16 modification thread

Ok, HELP! Lol!
Does anyone know the actual thread count on the gsg5's cocking tube? I've searched it on Google and have read 3 different sizes. I have an idea I want to make, but the US sites suck for proper info. I figure my people here may know better. Also, who is Gnutzguy on YouTube? He threaded his suppressor to the the right thread. He would know. I hope.
I didn't even know the GSG cocking tube was threaded. Till I just decided to install the fake can. It seemed to want to thread on.

The kit is ridiculously easy to install though...

For us guys, yes. For some others, not so much. Lol! My brother is a smart guy, University schooled, teacher, but no mechanical ability what so ever. He will tell you that too. Lol! That's the ones who will change their mind and sell the kit. Some will buy the deal to just sell the kit. Lol! I thought about it.

Just took mine apart in prep for more modifications, mine definitely does not look bad in anyway, that photo is hard too see what's going on. On mine the rifling is defined and starts just after the chamber, my chamber is also smooth. I tried taking a photo, but the ones I took just cant get a good focus on it.

Brandon

Those with Dlask 9" barrels, can you check the chamber for me? Mine runs like dog #### and this is why.

I had to buy an entire new gun that came with the kit from irunguns

Brandon

I’ve been debating doing this but I originally bought mine from IRunGuns in the first batch they brought in, before the conversion kits were available so it would be nice if I didn’t have to buy another rifle from them just to get the kit...

Honestly, it's an amazing price. Youre only paying $20us extra for the kit and converted to Canadian you're paying less than if you bought the rifle here. I mean, they are here but............you know what I mean. Lol!

This would be what would happen if my brother decided to install the parts kit on a GSG16. Don't anyone say this is cool, either. Lol!

Oh wait........or this one. Love this one.

Id say these look pretty good, SRC rear diopter fits all the same, just slimmer profile :p

My guess since it is made in Germany, it would be metric threads. M15 or M16 x 1.00 I think.

TPI gauges said 1.00.

*edited* I found a 14x1 bolt and did not fit, was too loose, thinking it may be a 15 or 16mm.

Got a better photo.

So you can see the chamber, then a deeper ring groove, a raised section, a ring groove, then the chamber

Hopefully fit the rear sight tomorrow, not bad for 4hrs of work. Lucky these already come pre molded for the included metal top plate IF you bought the kit from irunguns. Some finish sanding and she will be smooth

Although I started with the idea to do all the conversions and upgrades, I started to realize that you started to sacrifice this and that just to make it look like an MP5 but at what cost? Very very few builds actually come out semi-decent so I decided functionally reliability etc was more important to me. So I present below MY TAKE of the GSG-16.

The Details

OD GREEN GSG-16 - STRIKER QD MLOK ADAPTER - HK QD SLING RECEIVER STOCK PIN - STRIKER MLOK COVERS - MAGPUL PICATINNY COVERS
RECOIL BUFFER INSTALLED - HK FORWARD QD PUSH PIN

1 x GSG 10 ROUND MAG IN STOCK SLOT (IMPROVES BALANCE AND LOOKS AS A 22 ROUNDER LOOKS STUPID THERE)

AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES THE STOCK PICATINNY SECTION WAS COVERED WITH A MAGPUL RAIL COVER SECTION AS WAS THE REMAINING VISIBLE PIC RAIL BEHIND THE LIGHT/LASER. THE HAND SITS GREAT AND ALLOWS THE EASY AND FAST USE OF THE LIGHT

SIGHTING SYSTEMS A HOLOSUN 515CU MULTI RETICLE SOLAR QD RED DOT - OLIGHT BALDR PRO 1350 LUMEN LIGHT / GREEN LASER -
UTG AR15 ACCU-SYNC FLIP UP SIGHTS WITH DUAL APERATURE

FLIP-UP SIGHTS CO-WITNESS WITH THE RED DOT. THE GREEN LASER ALLOWS VERY EFFECTIVE TARGETING FROM THE HIP.

IT RUNS FLAWLESSLY WITH BOTH THE 10 ROUND AND 22 ROUND MAGS (BELIEVE IT OR NOT FROM A BENCH I PREFER THE 10 ROUNDERS!!)

THE SIGHTING SETUP ALONE ALMOST COSTS AS MUCH AS 2 GSG'S ($850.00) AND YES THE STOCK KID SIGHTS WERE TRASHED (THE GUN ACTUALLY ARRIVED WITH THE REAR PEEP BROKEN AND BLUE LINE HAS STILL TO RESPOND)

THE END RESULT IS A RIFLE THAT IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL WITH NO COMPROMISES IN MY OPINION.

^ nice color/combo.

But as for the 'reliability' of the conversion kit... unless you fk it up replacing parts, it's identical to the OEM gun... Not sure if you're talking about the 9" barrel conversion, but the kit doesn't change anything for the reliability bit.

That being said, has anyone posted a picture of a converted gsg with the 16.5" barrel still on it?

The GSG conversion kit was not the problem you are correct. The issues were with the barrel conversion and rear drum sight.
Also fitting a red dot using a claw type mount varied with the brand of mount which also carried over to the aftermarket cheap stocks and handguards that "almost" fit right. Gaps here, rattles there, sights that ended up being there just for looks as the didn't align right.

However I also do want to point out that the ingenuity of some members here to adapt and create parts is amazing!!

Well the receivers are different between the GSG 5 and the GSG 16. The GSG 5/552 doesn't have the slightly raised section on the receiver. So the HK rear sight doesn't sit low enough on the receiver. I'm waiting on a new drum, that I'm going measure the receiver different and remove it from the bottom of the drum.

As for the claw mounts, your relying on airsoft quality. I had 3 claw mounts, 2 the same style with different level of quality. Also GSG 5 are rounded, the squared raised section of the GSG 16 causes issues with some HK mounts. I had both style HK stocks, without rattles.

So your not going to get perfect, drop in, no problem accessories. Because the GSG 16 was designed to be slightly different than the GSG 5 ( which is prohib in Canada )

Well comes down to personal preference, research, ability, and want.

I love the GSG16, but after shooting a MP5 in Vegas I never shook that fix.

Have I spent too much on my GSG16 in mods, yes. Any regrets nope! I have saved lots not doing the wing/beer thing and have something I love shooting.

My buddy just picked up a green GSG16, so I brought my modded GSG16 over to compare. In stock form it felt very light and plasticy. Mine is heavier, more solid, and IMO just feels like it should.

You comments about builds not working out, are not accurate if you do your homework and choose wisely. I used an 3D printed rail that allowed me to use a beefier scope clamp, the stock was dremelled out and is tight, front grip was bedded and is tight, rear sight block was built up with JB Weld and fitted to the rear sight base. The metal cocking tube adds to the overall build and correct sighting HK experience.

The plastic 20mm top rail with the 2 brass inserts is not robust for optics. So I have no regrets over my 6 month patient proper build. And yes the barrel from Dlask is awesome, as the faux suppressor and fragile rear sling stock just doesn't go well with my other toys. :)

Not the best build but it reminds of my MP5 experience way more. :) Each to his own I guess.

With the stock barrel:

How it started my simple bolt ons:

I learned from others here, that helped with my build, as well my buddy is a machinists and I like tinkering, so this was an easy build compared to some others. I did the same type of build on my 10/22 shorty, I love both when shooting reactive metal paddles. :)

That's some borderline fudd attitude. My fixed stock fits snug and zero wobble, my illuminated handguard fits snug and again zero wobble... as for reliability, I sure as hell hope your not relying on a .22 for perfect reliable function.

I dont see anything that I have "sacrificed". I am improving everything. Just because you are not confident in your workmanship to do these modifications doesnt mean others are not.

I may be taking the tone of your online typed words incorrectly so my apologies if that's so.
