The GSG 16 modification thread

That's some borderline fudd attitude. My fixed stock fits snug and zero wobble, my illuminated handguard fits snug and again zero wobble... as for reliability, I sure as hell hope your not relying on a .22 for perfect reliable function.

I dont see anything that I have "sacrificed". I am improving everything. Just because you are not confident in your workmanship to do these modifications doesnt mean others are not.

I may be taking the tone of your online typed words incorrectly so my apologies if that's so.

"borderline fudd attitude!!!" You have NO idea of my abilities and confidence in them. I assure you I have done more builds and mods that you could dream of. I did not criticize anyone for what they do. All I said was some of the available mods are not up to MY standard.

Well comes down to personal preference, research, ability, and want.

I love the GSG16, but after shooting a MP5 in Vegas I never shook that fix.

Have I spent too much on my GSG16 in mods, yes. Any regrets nope! I have saved lots not doing the wing/beer thing and have something I love shooting.

My buddy just picked up a green GSG16, so I brought my modded GSG16 over to compare. In stock form it felt very light and plasticy. Mine is heavier, more solid, and IMO just feels like it should.

You comments about builds not working out, are not accurate if you do your homework and choose wisely. I used an 3D printed rail that allowed me to use a beefier scope clamp, the stock was dremelled out and is tight, front grip was bedded and is tight, rear sight block was built up with JB Weld and fitted to the rear sight base. The metal cocking tube adds to the overall build and correct sighting HK experience.

The plastic 20mm top rail with the 2 brass inserts is not robust for optics. So I have no regrets over my 6 month patient proper build. And yes the barrel from Dlask is awesome, as the faux suppressor and fragile rear sling stock just doesn't go well with my other toys. :)

Not the best build but it reminds of my MP5 experience way more. :) Each to his own I guess.

With the stock barrel:

How it started my simple bolt ons:

I learned from others here, that helped with my build, as well my buddy is a machinists and I like tinkering, so this was an easy build compared to some others. I did the same type of build on my 10/22 shorty, I love both when shooting reactive metal paddles. :)

Very nice looking clean build.

Thanks, after losing my AR to shoot I built a cheap 1022 feels somewhat like my old AR. Way more robust than the stock one, added a cheap short Ruger barrel. Can't stop modding things.

Hopefully fit the rear sight tomorrow, not bad for 4hrs of work. Lucky these already come pre molded for the included metal top plate IF you bought the kit from irunguns. Some finish sanding and she will be smooth

Excellent job! You will have a full on GSG5 when you're done. Actually, better. Chalk up another kick in the face for those Liberal goobers. Lol!
Well done though. You do good work.

Calm down, no need to blow a gasket bud. I guess you forgot to read my entire post and notice the apology at the end stating if I was misreading your comment, pretty typical of the sensitive type these days so I cant blame the special snow flakes... we all can get our feelings checked out at the Dr office for free, I'm on my way there now!! Laugh2

No need to call someone snowflakes or fudd, because you don't like their builds. And yes people shouldn't be afraid to check their feelings at the doctors. So stop using that as a insult, because there are plenty of people afraid to seek help, because critics like you. You go after the wrong people, and no wonder there is soo much infighting.

Lol huh?

I dont like his build? Where did that come from? His OD gsg16 is cool looking, I never once said it looked bad... he was criticizing the people that go through so much trouble in making the gsg16 look more like an mp5... and making it apparently unreliable..

My apologies OkayShooter, I didnt mean too offend you by calling someone else a fudd/snowflake..

pcwgr1, you didnt deserve to be called a fudd by myself or a snowflake, I am sorry...

Now that that's out of the way.. continue on..

Had it for years b4 the RCMP crap.

Looking into 597 or TUFF mags now. Loud with the short barrel but works awesome for gophers under 75 yards. :) Plus my daughter loves shooting it along side her brother with his STG44/22 and my GSG16. :)

Some work on the rear drum sight mount, in the shell there is a pocket to what looks to have housed a sight in a previous version which they didnt bother to remove. There is a substantial amount of extra plastic in the area that needs to get milled down, in some pics you can see how far down I'm getting with the height by just following the mould cavity. So far so good, now just need to copy it onto the other half and radius my edges and some final finish sanding on the entire body where I milled/filed away material.

I have a question regarding sights. I have a TRS-26 on mine and find it excellent. It is light enough as to not hamper weight issues. I can't believe how light this gun is. Because of that, I was going to us it for grouse this season. I was considering a 3x flip scope addition. Anyone done this? Too heavy? I'm an older fella, so the old eyes aren't what they used to be. I normally used a BSEV with a Bushnell Elite. Awesome gun but heavier than this little baby. Just curious. Thank-you.

I think when BL first brought them in, they had a red dot/3x magnifier combo on their display model. I'd just be worried about putting too much weight on the plastic rail.

I sent my GSG back to Dlask. 54$ :(

Second half rough fitted. Basic sanding and edge radius left to do, the tiny bit of gap you see will disappear once final sanding is complete, gotta leave some material to sand and ensure correct alignment/level is achieved.

So dont everyone call me stupid but with all the barrel change outs why cant a person just get the factory barrel cut, crowned and an adapter for 12x 28 put on it? Would there be an issue with twist ? Accuracy? I noticed with the original gsg16 cocking tube it has to be around the barrel before the barrel is threaded back onto the block. Dont all jump on my ignorance all at once. Just sometimes the simple first steps get missed.
