The gun room?

After an interesting conversation with my wife, I thought I'd ask you guys a simple question. Is a gunroom a part of the normal family home? I have had one in every home I have owned. I have had them in my later apartments. In my early apartments there was a gun closet, then it gradually grew. Now I can't imagine life without it. I know non shooters and occasional hunters are not going to dedicate an entire room to it. But, how many of you honest meeting attending problem gunaholics have a gunroom in your home? Or even a room in a shop or garage? At least five of my friends here in this small town have them in their houses. It can't be that unusual. What do you guys think?

When we moved into a bigger house one of the mandatory requirements was a dedicated gun room. I like mine.

Most of the gun guys I know who have the room in their homes have one set aside for this purpose.

Mandatory requirement for the mature gunnut.
Gun rooms reflect the personality of the gunnut... some are all tactical in appearance with sillouette targets and competition trophys, others are adorned with topo maps and various taxidermy.
The one common thread is the loading/cleaning bench and supplies.

I have finally built a very nice gunroom in my house , from a roughed in bedroom.
The walk-in closet is now the gun vault.
Before, I used the garage or had much smaller storage areas that were not as roomy.

Our basement isn't finished yet, but the walls are framed in and yes, the "hobby room" is the biggest space downstairs. There are close to a dozen racks adorning the walls only covered with poly. Pink insulation is not a cool gun room color. Our computer is in there for quick referencing, and of course the load bench, hunting gear and my families heirloom traps, and antiques. More of a meuseum than anything! And of course all my Grandpa's pictures from the war, his medals and tidbits he brought back from Europe.

The room drives my wife nuts but for me it is like stepping into the past where times were simpler to escape all the business we've created for ourselves.:runaway:

I have a small one 10'x10' in my basement. I imagine that 95% of people who handload have a gunroom in thier house, with the other 5% handloading in the garage.

After having a dedicated gun room for quite a few years now, I dont know how any gun nut could live without one, I know I couldnt.

My reloading bench needs a room by itself. Now to try and talk the wife into letting me knock down the wall and take the other bedroom as well :D. I wish

My fiance and I are having a place built right now, and one of the first things I am doing is putting a gunroom in the basement. She had plans for a possible extra bedroom down there, but OBC states that I cannot put a bedroom down there since the window is too small to exit from. Gotta love the Ontario Building Code :).

When I buy or build my first home I will push hard for a gun room. I would like a nice place where I can "get away" and relax and reload some ammo and decorate the place with a nice gun motief.

A must have for sure. My gun room is fairly large, unsure of the exact measurements, but it starts at the back door and goes right up to the front door. Includes about 80% of the basement and 50% of the garage.... ;)

I wish....

I don't think I could get by with just a gun room. I have a small wing of my house dedicated to me and my stuff. It is called the "The Man Room", and has a second room off of it which houses important things like my books, gun safe, fishing rod racks, computer, etc. The main room has my tv and chair and is addorned with my stuff. I even let her come watch tv in there with me sometimes.

Slug, I like the idea of a relaxing gun area like you talk about. Mine is more of a gun and reloading work area. It needs a more social area, might have to expand.
This is what my gun room looks like.

yes, you must have a gun room in your home. i am lucky as my wife was raised by her father who has one. she can have the main floor and 2nd floor the basement is mine to do what i wish (gun room/office/play room) etc...

Yep could not live with out one, mine is lined with 16 ga. stainless and 3/4" plywood, add the steel door and secure storage for all my shooting related stuff.
Next house I will have a gun basement, who needs to go all the way downstairs to do laundry etc. that crap can stay upstairs.

I think it's unusual for a house to not have a gun room. :D Acutally mine is a "shop" that I built for myself after I had to give up a spare bedroom for our second child. It's a little small, but it's mine and my wife doesn't care what it looks like.
