I know someone who shoots cast through his M13 with no probs. I think the bullet has to be cast to a particular hardness though before it is advisable.

I really have no idea how this could possibly happen :confused: If you have ever looked trough a polygonal barrel you can probably understand my confusion, as there is no rifling to "cut" trough anything... :runaway:

Well, after quite a pile of shooting he had to tap the unit apart with a nylon faced hammer and scrub the depostied lead off the piston assembly. He was shooting frontier bullets exclusivley at that point I believe, but some S&B might have gone through too. All he feeds it now is FMJ. I believe the manual cautions against lead, but I'm just guessing, don't really remember....

Hmm... Something's odd about that as there's no way the polygonal bore's going through the plating in my mind, AND the gas port's right back at the chamber, so even if it was a conventional barrel which it isn't and the lead was being exposed at all, all that should get leaded is the bore. Plated has always been the most clean for me as far as the gas cylinder due to a non exposed base. :)

As well, I just went back to my M8 to try, I think your friend's pulling a fast one on you about the spontaneous disassembly. :p You have to not only depress and hold the button, but then pull the slide a half inch to the rear, stop, and pull up then angle the slide over the barrel. If somebody was able to do this unintentionally, they're special. :D A Beretta 92 should be just as or more likely to "spontaneously disassemble". ;)
 
I haven't shot my 2 P7M8's yet but plan to really soon!!!
The hand fit is superb and I'm finding that in draw to point, the sights aligns much quicker than most guns...faster even than the 1911 which was the fastest gun for me to align. I guess with my smaller hands the flat slab like grips just aligns better for me. The short barrel also means it comes out of holster a bit faster too.

Just out of curiosity...are most P7 owners multiple P7 owners? I bought 2 but already have the itch for a third...just in case they do discontinue for good. I notice the guys in the US in The Cult of the P7 own quite a few.

I had emailed Massad Ayoob and he advised me that the +p+ 115 JHP that P&D sells should be fine in the P7...he says they were specced for 9mm NATO rounds which are actually hotter than SAAMI +P+. Guess the little gun is built like a tank.

How can you not love a gun which such features?
 
Good post. Its on my list to get. Theres so much about this pistol that makes it a class far above mostly everything else out there. Interesting as the design isnt far off 100 years old. Perhaps they will have a new run in a year or so? Its been discontinued before I think. I like it with the wood grips. Thanks for the write up...

The P7 is pure engineered teutonic art.
 
Winclean 124 gr. rocks out of a P7. Very little fouling of the piston.

Just out of curiosity...are most P7 owners multiple P7 owners? I bought 2 but already have the itch for a third...just in case they do discontinue for good. I notice the guys in the US in The Cult of the P7 own quite a few.

There are people on that P7 Cult site that own more than a dozen P7s. That is nuts in my opinion, but what ever floats your boat.

It may have been during a "tap rack bang" drill when the gun was new to him. Seems to me if you grabbed the back of the slide and pulled it could happen....who knows, this is an individual given to understatement if anything, so I doubt he's exagerating here. Might have been a fluke....
 
The P7M8 is a wonderful gun. Really accurate, sits low in the hand, and is very fast.

I have found with mine to avoid 147gr loadings - usually run into trouble with the last round in the mag.

But with 115's and 124's it is just great. Handles normal loads through to +P+ without a hiccup. I never go to the range without it these days.
 
too much on the go for me to afford one of these. Nice pistol, on my list for sure, just a matter of when.
 
So I may have missed it... which one is the most prevalent and easiest to get parts for, er, magazines for:

P7M8 or P7M13 ???

One thing I don't like is the recoil of the P7M8 with Combat Master ammo.

I find it snappy as hell, compared to my CZ75b in .40 ..
