The High Power, worth it?

I've got a serious itch for a highpower and there is a beautiful little mk3 browning in shiny black sitting under the glass at ISS.

I'm trying to decide if I should put my AR that I pretty much don't shoot up on the EE to give the high power a go. Will I end up disappointed with the high power and regret selling the AR is my main concern.

How is your highpower? How long have you had it? Can I see some pretty pictures of it?!

Well - the Mk3 has an epoxy finish which is laid on a little thick most of the time, but it does have the enlarged safety and better sights. The trigger pulls on the Mk3's I've handled have been from bad to "you gotta be kidding me". My Hi Power is a mid '80's gun, with the blued finish and nearly invisible sights, the trigger breaks around 8lbs and that's about 2/3's the break on a new Mk3. There seems to be no getting around taking a Hi Power to a gunsmith - get an older one, and you get the gorgeous fit and finish, but can't see the sights, get an unusable safety and it needs a trigger job in the worst way, or get a new one, and the fit and finish is so-so, and it needs a trigger job in the worst way.I'll see if I can get some pics up for you.

I love mine because it's shiny and the trigger's been fixed.

Most of the pistols I wanted when I was 12.

I have an early 70's Belgian made Hi-Power and it is without a doubt the finest handgun I have ever shot or seen in person. The fit and finish is fantastic, accuracy is excellent and I find the sights are very good. The trigger on mine is amazing. Comes apart very easily. Cycles everything I've thrown at it so far. Ofcourse not all Hi-Powers are the same, as they have been made for like 80 years now and have had many different variations and what not, but I can say with 100% certainty that my Hi-Power is a wonderful pistol.

I'm not familiar with the MK3 but I own a 1968 "T" series my father bought BNIB in the early '70s. The blueing is outstanding and the slide feels like its on ball-bearings. Trigger feels much better with the mag disco removed.
Not only is it an outstanding firearms but it also has sentimental value…so on my "never sell list". My son will eventually get it.

I have a MkIII practical (two tone, ambi saftey) that i replaced the stock sights on with XS xpress big dots, extra thin micarta grip panels and then swapped out the hammer/sear with a cylinder and slide "no bite set) and mainspring. I also dropped out the mag disconnect. Handles like a dream, much better trigger pull, i can decock without a mag in the pistol, and the sights are hell for fast, but loose precision much past 20 yards. I'd not consider a collection complete without at least one example of JMB's final masterpiece.

My complaint is the single sided / tiny safety. No magazine safety in this one from factory so the trigger was fine.

I have a HiPower, partly because I used them when I was a soldier. I also used AR-15s and I don't care to have one of those. The HiPower is a better pistol than the AR15 is a rifle. And I don't mean the AR15 isn't a good rifle.
