The HK G36 Rifle

What makes this rifle so expensive? Innovative tech? Rarity? Both?

Because people think they should sell for stupid amounts of money. The first ones in the country sold for around $2200. Then when they change hands they magically are worth double of what someone paid for them.

Yes, but those were 2,200 dollars at 1995-ish currency valuation. More like $3,300 nowadays?

Considering that the German Government forbids any German manufacturer from selling military grade weapons to civilians (and strictly controls who they can actually be sold to) it's amazing any of these guns ever made their way into collector's hands.
This is about owning a collectable item that is largely "Unobtainamun" so the price for limited numbers is what it is....if you can't afford it don't #####.

That simple, we don't get to pay the Government or Police price for them.

The SL8 is a $2100 rifle. The G36 really isn't any different in terms of production cost.

But a G36 isn't an SL8 isn't a G36. There aren't any new G36 being exported from Germany, unlike the SL8, so what is in Canada is it, there won't be any more. Rarity and sellers market play big into it, especially when you start parsing through the rifles and find some with Walther barrels versus factory HK barrels.

Look at prices of the other HK roller delayed rifles down south. For rifles like the HK91 that are more available (and in the case of clones are still being produced) the prices are low (comparatively), but the older sporting rifles like the HK770 haven't been produced in a few decades so the price goes up.
