Aren't Magpul mags something in the neighbourhood of $14 each US price?
I've tried one or two mags in my time as well. Never in the "sandbox" or the jungles of "Nam", nor in the "war to end all wars", but I find Magpuls to be of outstanding quality. Probably better than anything else I've tried, so far, and that includes pretty well every brand name that can be named. And for clarity I've fired hundreds, if not thousands out of each of the variety of mags.
I find that one of the true tests of a mag is time, combined with everyday carrying. Not neccessarily the firing. Simply the handling through the routine of day, be it in a pouch, pocket or bag, and dropping. And with the end and start of a day, loading, unloading, this actually puts more pressure/use on a mag than it simply being in a mag well while the bolt is reciprocating in the upper receiver and buffer tube.
The only problem I found with Magpul mags was, they did not insert properly in HK 416 lowers. I only tried the black and OD, as I'm told some of the other colours have slightly different dimensions. Seeing as I will probably never personally own a 416, it might not be an issue for moi.
Any mag, once "Canadianized" will cost more, up here. One has to take into account the screw around factor of, finding someone who will sell, having them blocked to CBSA and Police standards, and exchange rate, and shipping. All that costs money. However, all of those costs are factored into any magazine imported/brought into Canada, so we have to look at the base price, usually in US funds.
Considering all the above, I have to agree with KevinB in this regard.
