I'm on days off and went down to the indoor range to shoot with the retired old farts today. All seemed well when I showed up because all the guys were grey hairs and grumps - my kind of people!!!

So I'm shooting despicably as usual and minding my own business when somebody cuts loose with a cannon - and the rest of us bounce around like dice in a cup! The big boomers are even BIGGER boomers on indoor ranges and usually - it's some goofy kid renting a Desert Beagle or one of those horrible new Smith X-guns that need a bipod and a shoulder stock to shoot!

Upon further investigation - it turned out to be one of my fellow old stubfarts with a Ruger 44 magnum. Friends - I have NEVER seen better shooting than that in my LIFE. I've heard any number of pasty-faced poseurs brag about shooting like that...but this guy was the real deal. He had a five shot group a smidge over or under 2" right smack dab in the 10 ring. I was following that 25m Freestyle thread awhile back...and there were some snipers there...but even they would have had their cap in hand today!

Sometimes it's just a treat to actually see the kind of shooting that the big mouths and Hollywood seem to take for granted. I need some more serious range time and recommend the same for you too! The competition is not going to give us a break!

Nice, I've seen a few old timers make the "Youngsters" at my range look weak. Experience and practice often makes up for older eyes.

I may have told this before, but again, about 10 years ago a old bullseye shooter came out to buy a 22 match gun he had seen at the gun show.
Tat the time I was wearing a 9mm P220 and he wanted to try the 22 which worked fine.
He said that he had never shot a semi auto c.f pistol, I I let him shoot mine , we where about 100 ft from the line and shooting 2X4 blocks, be hit 7 out of 8 off hand.
He was 83.

I went to a PPC shoot to help raise money for a guy in the club with cancer. Many other older guys showed up but one in particular caught my attention because his hands shook badly. I seen him get ready to shoot and thought to myself "isn't it sweet he showed up to support his friend, guessing he probably wasn't able to shoot much anymore". Well could this guy ever shoot! Guess he timed his shooting with his shaking or something but he was amazing and won that day :)

My first wife, ( we're still friends...) wouldn't even be in the same room as a handgun when I first took up the sport, ( circa 1978 ) but after some gentle introduction with a little Beretta .22 she became more and more interested. Long story short, she won the 50yd 'Big Bore' outdoor shoot 3yrs later using my S&W 6" Mod 29. Mind you I was loading them down pretty good but still, the big guns can be damn accurate, even with a lady shooting offhand!

Needless to say our separation was civil....

If I ever become half as accurate and fast with my 92fs as some of the old timers I see at our club "Cowboy Action" matches are with their single action revolvers, I'll consider myself an accomplished shooter.

I am consistently amazed by how well some of those guys can shoot. And how fast.
