So as stated in a previous thread I finally got my 300 WM assembled. The first group I fired after zeroing was some left over reloads from another rifle. I had 12 165 gr Sierra Gameking's but have no idea about the powder, just remember it was a mild load. I fired two three round groups to finish my zero, and the last six as a group. How's this for a good omen?
The Humongous? Because it's big, heavy, and ugly just like the freak in the goalie mask and diapers from The Road Warrior. It's a Savage action from a 111 Package rifle in a Choate Varmint stock with a 30" Mcgowan tube and a Timney trigger. That's a Bushnell 4200 6-24X40 with a target dot reticle sitting on top.
Thanks to Jerry aka MysticPrecision for the goods and advice!
5 shots at 100 yds 200 gr SMK and 68.9 gr IMR 7828 for about 0.494"
5 shots at 100 yds 200 gr SMK and 71.9 gr IMR 7828 for about 0.830"
It was overcast about 10 degrees c. The wind was blowing from west at about 11 km/h which would put it coming from about 4-5 o'clock
I'm pretty pleased so far, no doubt it will only get better. I have some 208 gr A-Max's but I've had problems with Hornady bullets and may go with 210 gr Bergers or Sierra's. The powder will be Retumbo or IMR 7828. It looks like 7828 is good, hoping Retumbo is too.
I'm use to reloading for the .223, 50 Win Mags used up most of a pound of powder, guess I'll be getting the bigger size whatever that may be.
