The Hunting and Sporting Shotguns forum subtitle

"Where shotguns are judged by their appearance before their performance..."

I don't think that is a fair assessment at all but it seems that's your take on this forum and am sorry you feel that way. There is a spectrum of experience and interests here but I don't think prettiness of a gun is a common unifying theme. As an example, a recent thread on the Browning superposed: a lot of love there because fans of the gun appreciate the design, the mechanics of the action, and the quality of the build. As to embellishments, the walnut was as plain as could be, and the engraving typically even plainer. I would say ugly, but nice. Are they snobs to appreciate this gun that is too expensive to build in today's market?
I don't think that it matters what forum you're in, quality matters. The pre-'64 Winchesters had some parts machined rather than stamped, so will you call people elitist if they prefer the pre-64's? Is pressed 'checkering' as good as hand cut to you? Plastic trigger guards vs. steel? Guns with 2 hours craftsman time in fabrication vs. 100? These things are not related to appearance but rather to value - at least to some of us.
