Gday, long story short went out for a hunt after a few days of rain.

stalked in on a Sambar hind an shot her from 40m with the .375Win, she bucked an ran off, I followed her trail for 150m an heard her coffing in some blackberries, as I went in after her 2 deer flew out an I was able to drop the hammer on a Spiker Sambar stag from 100m as it darted off thru the bush.

Never shot 2 deer on the same hunt... happy days

Rifle is a Winchester 94 .375Win with Williams peep sights an shoots 220gr Hornady fn pretty slow. does the job I must say!

Good job! In the bush, a fast handling lever is tough to beat... The .375 isn't a barn burner, but it will knock the door off the barn! How are sambar for eating?

Too right mate!

The sambar are quite gamey an unless prepped proper it is an acquired taste.. also needs to be cooked properly too..

the fallow taste a bit nicer IMO!

Congrats! I got a pic of myself with a black bear from back in the spring with my Winchester 94 if you'd like me to post as well. Didn't want to take away from your post though if you thought it would.

Well done! Quite a bit of luck you had that day. Those are good-sized animals. What would they weigh, 300 lbs?

And that's a nice rifle you've got there.

Congrats! Those Big Bore 94's are a heck of a great rifle. I had one in a .356 Win. topped off with a 1.5x-4.5X Bushnell. I kick my arse for selling it! Those Sambar Stag look like a pretty fair sized animal?! Two in one day? You got your work cut out for you cleaning and packing them out I'd say?! ;)

I have my Grandfather's Model 71 .348 Win!! Here is a pic of my first Whitetail Buck taken with my inheritance. I took this fellow on the second Saturday of the rifle season in 2009 at Deerdr's place using factory Winchester Super X 200 grain silvertips.

Thanks fellas, Orange isnt a must have altho its gettin drummed into our heads!
The rifle is a Winchester 94 Big Bore .375Win, i was shooting mild loads of 2207 & 220hornadys for aroubd 1800fps estimate.
i love that gun, especially now :)

ps. neat rifle an neat buck! youve had a few rarebird calibres... i liike!

Damn, Sambar are fine looking beasts, really regret not having gotten after any in NZ. Well done!

Just as a note on hunter orange, they didn't require hunters to wear it in NZ either and there are heaps of hunters being killed by other hunters each year, but no one wants to wear it. Having said that, I participated in a trial for a product called IRIS (by Hunter Safety Lab) and it was pretty cool. Not saying everyone needs it but it'd certainly help keep hunters safe in Aus and NZ - check er out.
