The JR Carbine Thread

I put mine for sale on the EE... I barely use it. Posted the new extended Glock mags in the ad and I had a buyer in 5 minutes.

Anyone ever have issues with the firing pin getting stuck in the firing pin retainer, bought the gun used, took it to the range fired 40 flawless rounds of facory and handloads combined, went to the range the other day and fired 5 rounds then click, noticed it was a very light primer strike, loaded another round, click, nothing no mark on primer, looked at the previous fired brass and noticed the firing pin had actually punched right through the cup of the primers like a hole punch, went home pulled it apart and a circular piece of the primer was stuck in the firing pin hole ane the firing pin was stuck in the forward position in the retainer. I freed it up, took a bit of fine sandpaper and went over both surfaces incase of any burrs, went to the range today and fired 1 round and same issue, firing pin stuck in retainer again, took it apart again and sanded abit move until i was postive that it shouldnt get stuck again, hopefully should be able to try it again in a couple days. Any input would be appreciated.

It might be an idea to determine what causes a primer to blank a disc like that before sanding parts.

I think you have 2 different issues. I am thinking the firing pin was slightly deformed by the hammer striking it, causing it to stick in the retainer bore. The other issue sounds like the hole for the firing pin is larger than the pin allowing the primer to flow into the gap.

The back end of the firing pin was stuck in the retainer, once freed and inserted by hand it would get stuck, pretty sure a light sanding was the only option. If it is getting mushroomed by the hammer for whatever reason then there is definitely a problem.

Kind of sad I bought one for my girlfriend before she fell it love with handguns, fired about 80 shots through it and she finds it too heavy.

Marine 9mm takedown model. Love it myself, but she's not into it in the least.

Wish I'd got a good .308 or 30.06 instead :(

Great gun though

Kind of a bummer

I emailed JRC yesterday about the issue, they are sending me another firing pin for free, they did not say what the issue may be. Great customer service!!

The JRC gunsmith called me today to address the issue, he claims when they mass produce the firing pins they all dont get heat treated equally and to heat the end up glowing red and swish it around in motor oil. Upon further inspection the face of the hammer had rough casting marks, so i sanded it smooth and polished it, went to the range today and fired 50 rounds with no firing pin sticking issues.....however it is still blowing holes out of the primer where the firing pin strikes and 90% of them lodging in the firing pin hole causing the next round to misfire, if i dryfire it it will push the piece of primer out. i initially thought it was punching holes thru but in fact it is blowing them back obviously. Lol. Anyone else experience this or could mabey look at their brass closely....mabey a similar issue that you have not noticed? I'm shooting 4.5gr Win231 & Cam Pro 124gr. I have tried S&B and federal primers, i have shot approx 2500 of this exact load in 3 different pistols with no issues what so ever. Waiting to hear back from their gunsmith but any input in the mean time would be greatly appreciated.

4.5 grains might be a little hot.
What's the COAL?
I do 4 gr Titegroup.
What about factory ammo?

1.15 COAL, I'll load up some lighter loads and try that, that would be great if that was the issue rather than the gun. When i first got it i fired 20 factory rounds thru it aswell as same reloads with no issues so i never looked at the primers, it was the 2nd time to the range when the firing pin statted getting stuck and i noticed the primers.

Loaded up some lighter loads and no more primer issues. No more firing pin issues either since i polished up the hammer. Worked like a champ in the last 100+ rounds. Now i have a spare firing pin, retainer and spring that JRC sent me, thanks for all the input guys!!
