This is a blowback action, I wouldn't mess around with changing either the length of the buffer tube or the size of the buffer itself.

From JRs website:
"JR Carbine buttstocks use commercial grade buffer tubes. These will accommodate milspec tubes, but the stock bodies will fit somewhat loosely on the mil-spec tubes. One usually cannot match up a mil-spec stock body with a commercial buffer tube, however, because the greater diameter tube will not fit within the molded stock body. If you are using an entirely new stock assembly, though, it will not matter whether the assembly is commercial or mil-spec. Having said that, you MUST ensure that the internal buffer tube depth of the replacement stock does not vary more than 1/8th of an inch from the depth of the buffer tube your JR Carbine was supplied with. You MUST ALSO ensure that you use ONLY the internal parts (buffer/spring/nylon disc/rubber bumper) that came with your original JR Carbine buttstock. Set aside any internal buffer tube parts that came with your aftermarket stock and do not install them on your JR Carbine. If you try to use them instead of the proprietary parts provided with your JR Carbine and the installation method prescribed, your carbine will break and require repairs - which will not be covered by warranty. "

Does anyone know which sling plates will fit the JR's buffer tube that has a Quick Detach?
Magpul does not fit. I have a GG&G on right now, but not a QD.

Almost anything AR. I have a 12in. ATI hexagonal fore end on mine, primarily because I could source one locally. I've seen them with a bunch of different styles/manufacturers, so find something you like and give it a whirl

Ok. so i bought a mil-spec AR stock. and found out my JR has a commercial grade on it,
so i purchased a Mil-Spec buffer tube. during install i used all the Fact parts from JR Carbine.
however my concern is that the Mil-Spec buffer tube is shorter than the Com-Spec tube.
the Action still performs but with the shorter tube. am i going to have blowback issues directing into ejection issues?

I found actual instructions, for pin removal.

The stocks on the JR carbines coming into Canada are fixed with a roll pin so they can't be adjusted. A lot of people have been asking how to remove the roll pin so the gun is adjustable. Here is the method recommended by the folks at JR carbines in New York. This was posted by Miranda B, a spokesperson for JR:

Our fixed-length stocks are commercial dimension (not milspec) collapsible stocks that have been pinned here at our factory. The pinning is accomplished by drilling through one side of the stock body and into - but not through - the locking rail on the bottom of the stock body/buffer tube and then pressing in a 1/8-inch roll pin. This method meets the legal requirement that the pinning method not be readily undone. Having said that, shooters who wanted to convert their pinned stocks back to original (i.e. when relocating to an unrestricted jurisdiction) have been known to run a 1/16-inch drill bit through the center of the roll pin and out the other side of the stock body, and then use the 1/16-inch hole as a pilot hole to drill back through the stock body to the end of the roll pin so they could drive the pin out of the stock with a 1/8-inch punch.

It should. You'll likely need to modify a large washer to use as a shim so that the barrel nut will tighten down on the barrel flange properly. Other than that...should be straight forward.

What's the difference between the takedown and non-takedown version ? Is it just a different forend that is faster to remove or is there other differences I don't see ? Can you put on a different forend on the takedown version as well ? I would like to put on a longer one for sure if I were to buy one.

The takedown version has the barrel nut built into the forend - one step barrel to remove. The standard railed forend unscrews from the barrel nut, after you loosen the jam nut. Then you removal the barrel nut - two step barrel removal. If you buy an aftermarket one, make sure it comes with it's own barrel nut (with jam nut).

JRC is about to offer an "11.5" rail on top" forend. I have opted for the YHM rifle length (12.625") quad rail.

I was thinking about putting the same ATI Forend on mine. I was also looking at some of the UTG Ultra Slim hand guards. Anybody have any experience with mounting either of these?
