The JR Carbine Thread

Question for all you JR owners...

Some of these just showed up at my local gun shop. Comes in 9mm, .40SW and .45ACP. I am intrigued by what I have seen on reviews and how modular this gun is. I definitely don't need another 9mm carbine, so between the .40 and .45ACP is there any functional/practical reason to choose one caliber over the other? I have another carbine in .40, so that's my current leaning right now, since I would have the ammo and the mags for it, but as I have never shot anything in .45ACP nor have the ammo. My use would be range target shooting and practice. If the choice of .40 or .45 is just purely compatibility with existing mags or ammo, that would be an easy choice for me, but I am not sure if there is any performance/accuracy/reliability advantages to using .45ACP. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Finally got a JR in 9mm last spring, GEN 2, LOVE IT. It eats any ammo flawlessly! Upgraded the hand guard, have Bushnell 4-12x40 on it and 45* irons on it. Next mods will be a new butt stock and flip up sights. Found my barrel nut would come loose, have since put loc-tite on it, problem solved! Running Glock, SGI, and Magpul magazines, all work perfect.

So it was time for a small project .
Picked up the latest gen JR in 45 acp from Tenda (first time customer with them & order was processed & shipped fast )

Now I've never been a fan of the JR as it comes out of the box
So as soon as it arived I set about the transformation.
Same as I did to my JR in 40S&W

Guess I'll have to get one in 9mm now lol

Reviving this Zombie thread.
I just got a JR non take down base model (in 9mm)

Right now its bone stock. I already have an optic for it and a bunch of mags.

From those that have one, what would be the 1st few things to upgrade? (im not going to be competing)

What components did you use to do this project, and where did you source them at? Just got a JR a few weeks back, and while it's a great shooter so far, it does look unfinished.

Functionally? Nothing. Mine worked excellent literally right out of the box. But cosmetically and ergonomically?its each to their own. On my basic model, i found the factory forend horrendous to hold onto and ugly... so i swapped it out. I also dislike the junky and wobbly feeling of the buttstock. So i swapped that out as well. At the time, for an extra 100 bucks JRC offered a quick detachable buffer system that made the basic disassembly of the carbine twice as convenient to do.... so i bought that as well. I also didnt like the looks of the barrel thread protector, and i wanted something to protect the crown, so i put a very simple muzzle device on the end.

i dont like holding the forend much either. i was thinking a vertical grip would be the cheapest and fastest way to fix that? But if there is a good, easy and inexpensive forend anyone recommends im def interested.

I like having an adjustable stock so ill likely leave that for now.

any luck with fake can to make that barrel look less anorexic?

also, how are people attaching slings assuming im keeping the OG stock?

The handguard is the only thing I have changed on mine. The factory quad rail was just too fat. I got a no name low profile handguard from TNA. You will need an extra thick barrel nut shim if you go this route, but TNA sells those too. They also have fake cans, but not sure if they have the correct thread size for a 9mm JR. A vertical or possibly even an angled front grip could also be a solution to the fat handguard.

So .. picked up Vortex SPARC Solar for my JR Carbine (.40 S&W) and before I got it mounted .... my Leupold ultra light 3 x 9 arrived back from warranty repair (Thank you Korth) .. and I'm now faced with a conundrum ..... I can't decide which one to put on. Ya, I can do one then the other and see what I like .... but thought I would ask those that may have switched from a traditional scope to red dot (or visa a versa) why they did?

I find a red dot OK in low light conditions, (indoor shooting). IMHO, it seriously lacks when outdoors, which is why I will be putting a tactical scope on mine shortly.

TNA's Super M-Lok Handguard offers improved sight radius for MBUS irons. Don't even need an optic.
The JR just begs for such a minimalist setup.
If you really want a scope, put it on your Ruger PC carbine.

Looking through the comments I cant see anything about where to get a bigger charging handle?

I put ~200 rds through it today with no issues, but I felt the handle was a bit small.
