I had an all numbers matching Jungle Carbine, including mag, but the flash arrester was removed, rear sight removed and a nasty hardwood Monte Carlo stock to replace the original... I traded it for a m10 ross (sportered). Was that a decent thing, to do?

My buddy gave me his fathers old Jungle Carbine and it was exactly how you just described. I ordered a new stock and flash hider from Numrich to bring it back to original. As for the rear sight, they had cut down the metal that the original sight would fit on. So I didn't fix that, instead we took it out to the range and just did the old "point and shoot". Still a really fun rifle, glad I kept it.

bumping this thread cause I'm seeing a lot of really sweet rifles here.

So cool to think that one of these could have actually seen action...maybe with a paratrooper or commando

nice rifles gentlemen !

One of the guys I target shoot with was in Royal Army, stationed in Malaysia. he said it was the standard issue rifle of the day and they had to qualify with it. He did not recall it being a bad rifle.

My father bought this No.5 in Montreal in either the late 1950s or early 60s.

Does anyone remember Fraser & Co in Montreal....gun dealer/importer circa 1950s/60s?
I wonder if the rifle might have come from Fraser.

My dad kept great records of where he bought his guns.....but no reference to the No.5.

The first photo below shows the No.5 on the pegboard in my bedroom in my parent's house...early 1960s.

This BSA Shirley 1945 dated rifle looks unissued.
Code M47C----S/N BB9724.

vermintrex.

That photo shows my small collecton back in the early 60s.

Many of these pieces have long since gone .....a few of them are still around......amongst them is the No.5.

I went into a very different collecting direction since then.

At the top of the 1960s photo is a Russian Berdan rifle (Colt--I don't remember)
It is the only photo of it that I have---sold in 1966.

6/45 matching numbers. Only marks on wrist are a broad arrow (left) and acceptance stamp on the right. Front sight is marked M/47C. Has a mk3 rear sight with increments to 18.
Is it unusual that the wrists are bare?

My first LE. inherited from my Father.
A bit odd though as there is supposed to be 2 pins holding on the flash eliminator & as far as I can tell this has only one pin.
Yes it is a true & proper No.5 (had it checked at the local gun shop).

Well I see the photo is MIA so I will go & read the how to's again :(

trying again with the picture

Picture shows up in the preview anyway...unusual with only 1 pin holding the flash eliminator.

I usually only see 4 digit serials.

Mine is a letter prefix 3 digit serial, is that uncommon, or just random that I haven't seen more like it ?
