So setting out Friday afternoon to be about 1.5 hrs away for the season opener, I had just bought a boat, 14 ft, grass camo down the sides, 15hp Evinrude along with about 6 dozen decoys(only brought a dozen). Either way, i had a few stops before i got outta town, Bank, Post office, Fuel station, coffee from tims and costco. I had thought it was going to be uneventful, I was wrong. Everywhere i had stopped and got out even for 30 sec, there was always more then one person who stopped me and asked about duck hunting and the boat, what duck tastes like, where i go. I even had a nice conversation with an older lady outside of Costco which I of course stopped and chatted with her for quite some time. I would have never known that so many would be quite inquisitive as with everything to do with duck hunting. Has anyone else came across this?

Sorry if this is in the wrong area?

were i came from most people think that duck and goose taste very bad , it just they dont know how to cook it ,

never really had that kind of event ,

I think it's because you stand out compared to the average person. I remember when we switched to a CADPAT uniform from the old work dress and I had people stopping me to ask about the uniforms (what material, how comfortable, if I was American, etc... ) anytime I went anywhere but straight home from work.

Having a hunting boat is almost like wearing a uniform, it makes you stand out and strangers feel comfortable approaching you.

...no it's true ...and all the guys who my engineer kid supervises requested time off this year from the fields to...go duck hunting! ...many are totally new to it ...lots of ducks to go around, and geese too ...good on ya!

lol, yup. i still miss that old green stuff, except the yoke and webbing that IMO was horrible.
where i live, everyone has camo (most of it better then the issued stuff).

opening day for duck, there were three boats lined up at the gas station around the corner. The only duck conversations anyone had were how many they got last year on opening day, and at the end of the day, how many did you get this year.

My son and I come across this almost every year, however not because of a grass camo boat. Enroute home from deer hunting we have to stop for gas where some people see the deer racks in the box of the truck and ask questions..........where we hunt, how we got them, what gun and cartridge, where are you from? It makes fun conversation, however the 11 hour ride home is stretched longer in more ways than one, especially when a hunter misses his spouse.

And the giant buttons with the rumour you could boil and eat them, which of course you couldn't. But a couple people tried over the years.

I still have all my old stuff, supply wouldn't take it back. Between the OD, work dress, CADPAT, DEUs, and now NCDs I have more uniform than most women have "outfits"... Oh, and boots for any and all occasion...

same here. so i donated the useable stuff to a cadet sqn. we did a "shoe count" at the house a few years back, it was depressing that i had more footwear then the wife.
