The Krinker Plinker

It would be restricted if the folding stock shortens the overall length to less than 26". That's why they have a version with a fixed stock available.

I'm not sure what "look-a-like"s you are referring to.

i was told in the firearms course: any firearm that just looks like a prohib firearm, is a prohib firearm. So he was probably told the same.

The Ruger 10/22 doesn't look like a prohibited firearm. Only the kit makes it look like one... That's why I'm happily waiting for the Thompson kit!!

I bought a Krinker with the longer barrel and a folding stock and it was still under 26" folded because it had the shorter silencer. You still have to fix the stock open, which I did.

I also made a Ruger 10/22 into this, which if it was a real M1 Carbine, would be restricted. I needed a muzzle-brake to make it over 26":

Some member of this board owns a Krinker with an 8" barrel AND a folding stock and was trying to sell it as non-restricted. That's a tiny non-restricted gun. I think it's still up for sale... no one's touched it.

I was going to order one from Questar but they were having trouble dealing with the company in the states that makes them and cancelled my pre-order. I don't think anyone imports them now, but I'm not 100% certain.

Some are floating around and like I said, there's one on the EE. Make sure you make it legal, though.
