Here are some pics of a nice groundhog hunt the past weekend. My son, 8 years old, logged his first kill with a Marlin 25N (with the buttstock cut down) mounted with a 4x scope and firing 40gr CCI Minimags.

The hogs are absolutely enormous, man are they ever fattened up for winter!

I used a Savage Model 112FVSS in 22-250 with a 6-24x Tasco Varmint scope. Three hogs, all head-shots at average 150 yards. (I got one bugger peeking through the grass at me just out of his mound - put a 50gr Hornady V-Max right through his left eye. Ouch!)

How about any other varminters out there, any luck?
 
Those ground hogs are as big as your little guy! I wish we had those things out here, but I have to settle for gophers when I varmint hunt.
 
My father told be he used to shoot them on the farm he grew up on in Ontario-they were served up as ''field rabbit''.And-why not-they eat the same forage as rabbits
