Finally got the right handed version finished up.
1979 BDL action.....Shilen 9" twist #2 at 23"......Rifle Basix trigger
McMillan Edge,...I forget what pattern it is.....doesn't matter.
6-1/4 lbs naked....I think it'll work.

Just got back from shooting a similar rifle. Stainless 700 s/a, Hart #3 in 260 Ackley Brown Precision superlite (pillar bedded),Leupold 3-9-33 in Talleys. Weighs 7 lb. 3 oz. empty and shoots 140 partitions in 1 hole @ 175 yd Not really a Rem. fan but this could become the new 'favorite'. Mark

Mountain Rifle pattern.

Thats a slick looking boom stick and I doubt you'll regret it. It just has "perfect balance" written all over it :)

How do you like Rifle Basix triggers?

Nice work man, I quite like the one you made Mur. Shoots too....
The early CM actions are great aint they?
Let us know how it shoots when you get a chance.

Oh, and Rifle Basix shoots well eh?

Yeah, I remember now, it is an MR pattern stock, thanks Arch.

Rifle Basix triggers are OK, but I prefer a Timney,..this trigger came to me on a rifle in a trade.

The 70's to early 90's CM actions are some of the best 700's made IMHO...but what do I know about it?

Mur has my original 280AI that I built for myself three or four years ago,...I can build 'em but I can't hang on to 'em:rolleyes:

Mur's has a PacNor barrel, I think, maybe it's a King, it's fluted, in a Wildcat stock and it's 24"....

chuck,....the "cuter" twin is slated to have it's barrel cropped back to 22 or 23".....it's very fast with it's 24" barrel. It hit 3300 and change with a 140 in October, so we'll back off the charge a bit for warmer weather. Even at 22" it should still do 3150-3200.

I think I'll rob the Talley LW's off my 700 Classic 280 and put a 3.5-10X on it, just cuz I have one. That will put it a hair over 7lbs.

The hard part will be hanging on to it....and I don't mean on the bench:D

Well, I did some trial mounting of scopes last nite and the rings remain empty this morning.

I had a few choices but none really looked right.
First up was a matte 2.5-8X Leupy......too much gap between the objetive bell and the barrel and if I go to extra low rings I have bolt handle intereference.
Second up was a 3.5-10X Leupy, one of the gun metal grey versions which just doesn't do justice to a black stock and a stainless barrel....esthetics only but hey,..it has to look "right"
Third was another 3.5-10X Leupy, this one a matte black with an elevation turret....this one would be "right" except for the turret,....I don't need it on a hunting rifle.....so,..I have to search out a scope for it,..maybe I'll just pick up a new 3-9X VX-2 matte,......

Ultra lows and a FX2 6X36 may suite the sleek/light look of the rifle.

It might work for some, but I just can't see going 6X when I can go 3-9X...or 3.5-10X

can't understand the almost cult-like following of the Leupy 6X's either...I'd feel handicapped in the bush on 6X and handicapped shooting paper with 6X...3X in the bush and 9X in the open makes more sense to me...or 3.5 and 10X..

I agree with you about the 3x9 being very usefull, my first choice unless it`s going on a varmint rifle. I like the Rem. this time the bolt is on the proper side.:D

X-Low Talleys will work if you can work a little magic with a mill on the rear base to allow the selector ring to clear. The bolt handle will clear.

I like them all but love the eye-box of the fixed 6's. They come up and "are there", no dickin' around. I'm not 100% confident using them in timber, but I think its all in my head.

Either way, I want dibs on that gun when you get bored of it :p
