Hi folks,

Not sure if this is the correct forum or not but here goes. Sadly my grandfather passed away a few weeks ago and we have gone through all of his belongings. This included his small firearms collection. Our family would like to get as much info out of curiosity and history sake and for insurance sake for these guns but in particular two guns we cant seem to find much info on. There are two 410 double barrel shotguns with The Liege United Arms Company stamped on top of the barrel along with other markings. I could not find much info on this company or the guns, does anyone have any info on this company and the guns itself? Thank you,

I too recently acquired a Liege United Arms Co. 28 gauge from another forum member. Here is what I found out. In 1919 3 seperate gun makers, Albert Simonis, Antoine Bertrand and Pirlot& Friesart joined together to form Fabriques d'Armes Unies de Liege which I gather Liege United Arms is part of. FAUL was around from 1919 to 1959. If you were to remove the barrels and post pics of the marks that are on the flat part of the barrels, I may be able to decipher the proof marks to give you an approximate age of the guns. If you post pics, try and get them as clear as possible. If you can't post pics, maybe you could send me a private message and you could send them to my email address. Either way, I assume they are nice handling little shotguns. My 28 is.

My book is showing a Fabriques d'Armes de Liege and refers to Centaure.

Centaure: Manufactured in Liege, Belgium by Fabriques d'Armes. This company was established about 1812. Current Centaure shotguns are high quality boxlocks built on the A & D system.
 
The info I posted came from info I asked about on doublegun forum. These guys live and breathe SxS's and about 4 members gave me the same info. I know from what little I found on my own, I came across info regarding Fabriques d'Armes Unies de Liege that showed pics of various guns and one was a double marked Liege United Arms Co. I know the gun that I have falls into the time period of when FAUL was in business. So, who knows for sure except for it is very difficult to find much information on these.

Edit--I just checked back through the info I found/was given. It is very confusing regarding FAUL. It shows about 4 different companies listed as Fabriques d'Armes Unies de Liege. I don't know if they are all the same company that underwent changes throughout its history or not. It also shows them making the Centaure but it is only one of the guns/lines they made. It is hard to decipher as most of the info is in French.
 
I will try to take some pictures of the guns and the marks on it, I did try this one time and I couldnt figure out how to do this without getting too much glare, any ideas?
 
My info comes from the book Side by Sides of the World by Charles E. Carder.

Some of this is like trying to pin down all the guns by Crescent Arms.
 
I have a 12g with 2 sets of barrels same has both the names. I have seen a few on here.
I am sure that as with most companies most are 12's then 16 the rest are likely uncommon.
It is neat trying to trace them back though.

I am a member of doubleguns BB and can attest to the fact that those guys are the world's best at this stuff.

Very often the problem with Continental and British makers isn't so much that records weren't kept. It's that there were two world wars and Belgium and Germany were ground zero for destruction.

I have numerous Belgian, German, Austrian and Czech doubles. Figuring out the details of who made them and when can be fascinating. But don't expect that there will be a quick, simple and accurate answer automatically or that records weren't kept.

Mostly, the records were destroyed during two wars.
 
Perhaps saying that records weren't kept was not proper terminology. It should have been that records aren't available. And yes, the chase for information about an old gun is part of the fascination with owning one. Just when you think you have everything figured out, new information surfaces which changes everything.
 
Sorry for the long delay, computer died on me, I managed to get some pictures of the gun and the best I could do to get the markings. Can someone tell me how to post pics on here though?
 
You have to use a host such as photobucket. Once downloaded to photobucket, just hold the curser on the pic you want selected and a menu should drop down. Click on the IMG code and it should say copied. Then just click and paste onto your post on this forum. At least this is how it works for me.
