hello,

we always heard about Fayritale and last night with Ted yes our Why not? we created another one.

from a 300 winchster brand new brass to a 375 ruger ...

Ted used a caliber .40 die set and expanded up to .40 with the 375 Ruger die putting down to .375 caliber and voila.

sorry i may not use the right technical words but you get the picture.

we went at the range and shoot that first cartridge from this rifle unfired up to last night.

the cartridge holds it, the rifle and the shooter too.

i will forgot names but C-BFMI with one another member of the forum are responsible to saved that lovely caliber.

i will post pictures later.

sleep well. Phil

We used an RCBS 30-40 neck expander die, but you could probably do it with any 40 cal expander. Or, turn one from a 7/8"-14 bolt. Just taper it from 30 to 40 cal, and you're in business.

Be interesting to see how it compares to the .416 Ruger.

We necked the case back down to 375, just enough to have the bolt close with a slight crush fit to avoid an excessive headspace situation. One could leave it at 40 to make 416 Ruger brass, but it might be difficult to ensure proper headspace.

Used a starting load with Varget and a 300 gr Hornady RN, the case formed nicely with sharp corners on the shoulder.

I'd like to see a picture of one of those cartridges! I never would have thought a belted 30 cal mag could be transmogrified into a non-belted custom elephant cartridge!

I realize necking up to .40 cal then necking back down to .375 cal is probably the preferred way to go. But Doug simply fire .300WM in a .375 Ruger chamber rifle and achieved the same thing.

I haven't felt the need to perform this bit of magic as my Hornady brass has been just fine but knowing I can make cases from the .300 cases is mildly reassuring.

Here's a couple of links to the relevant thread.
