Hey everyone,

Since my moose hunting trips usually consist of seeing 100 grouse for every moose (on average :confused:) and now that I'm getting into reloading, I was looking into a reduced load.

From what I'm reading (http://members.shaw.ca/cronhelm/TheLoad.html it looks like I just substitute my regular powder with 13 gr of Red Dot (which I have a few pounds of) and my bullet with a cast one. I was thinking of trying the 9.3 bullet from The Bullet Barn. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've read a few reviews of "gallery" loads for the 303 Brit using pistol bullets, which I would imagine are quite similar to what you're looking for. Apparently they worked quite well at 25 yards and under - well enough for grouse anyways.

Load some up and let us know how they do!

I've been using Trail Boss in my reduced loads, but have not done up any for the 9.3 yet.

Let us know how those cast bullets work in your 9.3.

I've been considering them myself for a good general purpose bullet in my 9.3x57. Too bad they aren't gas checked so they could be pushed to full 9.3x57 velocities. Even w/o the gas check, you could probably get them safely to 1800 fps or so and that would be hell on moose and bears out to 100 yards...

The one's I'm looking at are supposed to be.
"9.3 mm x 57 RNFP GC DLG" From the Bullet Barn page. Looks like I'll be placing an order on Monday ;)

I've shot a few of those 280 gr, 9.3 bullets from Bullet Barn. They are gas checked and were quite accurate in my 9.3X62 out to 50 yd which was the furthest I shot them.
 
By all means have fun experimenting! but also check the POI after shooting cast bullets by shooting a jacketed bullet at a target immediately after. Some rifles will throw a jacketed bullet wide of the usual point of impact because of bullet lube residue in the bore after shooting some cast bullets. Other rifles aren't so fussy. Just a suggestion.
