There have been a lot of threads related to the Browning Auto 5, and every time one is started, I always mention that there should really be a thread dedicated to the long recoil action semi auto shotgun. Although designed and made famous by Browning, there have been many beautiful shotguns built off of the long recoil action. Tried, tested and true...the long recoil action has defined dependability and has a cult following of believers. I'll start the thread off with a sample of my collection of Franchi 48's. From top to bottom...
2000 Franchi 48AL Deluxe 28g
1967 Franchi 48AL Hunter 20g
1960 Franchi Fourty-Eight 12g
1973 Franchi 48AL Hunter 12g
1973 Franchi 48ALVH Hunter 12g

I love my old long recoil guns, they just fit and work well for me.

My trap gun, a 1963 Breda 12g. I can shoulder, swing, and shoot this shotgun well; others that try - they can't seem to figure it out.

My first LR shotgun was an Ithaca 900 20g that I picked up for $200. It's light and has minimal felt recoil - I learned to love the LR shotguns from this one. I almost traded it once, but it is the only gun my wife has ever said I am not allowed to get rid of - she likes shooting it as well.

And finally after listening to all the A5 talk, and me never owning a Browning, when I came across this mint condition 1964 (I think, I can't remember) MAG A5 in 20g, I knew I needed to bring it home. It looked barely used when I got it, and I have only had it to the range once. It will go to one of my sons one day.

I came across a decent Ithaca 900 in 12g recently and I am kind of kicking myself for not picking it up. It was at a shop I frequent and they were waiving it under my nose - I think they know me too well. I am thinking a Franchi is needed to this little group I have going

Nice line up! I have been teased by a beautiful Breda at the local gun shows for a while that has full scroll engraving on a satin silver receiver. If it wasnt for a small crack on the rear stock and a mismatched forestock, I would have purchased it long ago. I also have my eyes open for well priced Auto 5 sweet sixteen...but well priced seems to be the hold up!

A bit of a flash in the past, but that same Ithaca was on sale at my LGS today for a price I thought was fair, so I now have the 900 in 12g in my collection. It looks barely used - I'm quite happy with this addition. Next up: Franchi.

Great looking collection there Beretta! Love that 1973 Franchi 48ALVH Hunter 12g and the AL's. Would like to try one of them out. Whats they weight on the 2000 Franchi 48AL Deluxe 28g? Looks light.

That 48ALVH was my fathers gun. He bought it new in 1973 from a hardware store on College Street in Toronto. That gun provided many meals for my family! My dad shot that Franchi until the day he died. If I was to be conservative, Id say he shot 2000 rounds a year out of it...so after 38 years, he's got about 75000 rounds through it. Not bad by any standards

Both the 20g and the 28g are roughly the same weight, which tip the scales at 5.4lbs. The Franchi 48's are some of the lightest 12g, 20g and 28g guns available. They are an upland hunting dream come true. Here are some additional photos of the 28g Deluxe. The previous photos i posted dont do it justice

Your father certainly got good use out of that franchi then didn't he! Lots of memories attached to a gun like that for sure. Incredible to think. Thanks for sharing, they're all nice looking guns, but that ones obviously special.

I had heard they're light guns. Damn they'd be a joy to carry all day.

You're right the first pic didn't do justice to the wood that guns packing! Very nice indeed. Thanks for adding another treasure to keep an eye out for ;)
