The Long Recoil shotgun thread

Some nice single shots.

I take it you don't have much luck with semi-autos?
Anyhow, below is my lone entry. It's a 1953 European model. I have the original barrel and stock set. Right now it sports a Ram-line stock and a vent rib barrel from a later Japanese A5 that has been opened to modified.

I am cursed for sure!

It can even affect others autos around me.

Well, that's what I thought about myself back in the 70's when I had an Ithaca XL900. Poorest excuse (my experience) for an auto loader there was as far as functioning goes, and it turned me off of auto-loaders for some time. But, I finally bought another and that's all I use for waterfowl.

Who makes a good semi 28 gauge? I'm a 12/16 gauge shooter, looking to expand into something a bit smaller just for fun.

Alvaro, the wood on your Franchi is fantastic. Looks even better in person.

Thanks Patrick. I didnt know you were eyeing my wood!

I've got my eye on you two...... lol

Seriously though, some beauty guns in this thread..... I had a beautiful auto 5 in 12 gauge, but moved it along.... they never did fit me or suit my eye when shouldered.....

Haha...you better have your eyes to the skies....there are snows to kill, freezers to fill and sausages to stuff!!!

My neighbour lent me his luggage scale to weigh my guns, so I decided to get a family photo:

Top to bottom: 1967 Browning A5 20g Magnum, Ithaca 900 20g, Ithaca 900 12g, 1963 Breda Automatic 12g. Both 12g weighed 7.4lbs and both 20g weighed 5.8lbs - though the Ithaca 20g just feels like it is lighter.

Ithaca 900's: 12g top, 20g bottom

Ithaca 900's: 20g left, 12g right

What do you guys use to accurately weigh your shotguns?

I have a regular standing weigh scale at home. I just weigh myself first without the gun in my hands and then weigh myself again with the gun in my hands. Subtract the two and the difference is the weight of the gun.

Very nice zedbra, love the game scene on the Ithacas

I agree! Im a sucker for game scene etching/engraving and nice wood....and those Ithaca's look like they have nice furniture. Here is the wood on one of my Franchi's....lots of depth when it catches the sun. Sadly, I need to find this Franchi a new home. New home purchase = guns having to be sold.

Surprisingly that nice figure was hand painted on by very talented Japanese artisans at SKB. Underneath it is very plain straight grain walnut. Trying to refinish one is when most find out the ruse.
