I just bought a Remington 700 in 8mm Remington Magnum do discover how much recent change in security policies in the States affected my availability of brass for that caliber. Neither shops nor private sellers will ship unprimed brass abroad as it is considered as ammo. :(

I live in the EU, so metric calibers are nothing special here. Maybe we can exchange metric for 8mm RM? :rolleyes:

Just neck down 375 H&H brass. One pass through the sizing die, adjusted so the bolt will just barely close on the resized case, and you have perfectly headspaced brass. Load and go to the range!

Don't use reduced loads. Full power loads will firform brass perfectly, and shoot to the same point of impact as loads in fireformed brass.

I find an oddball, usually recommended by my brother in law....I get it shooting great....then it gets popular with my friends....then it's not oddball anymore

Now I'm interested in some cartridges that have a lot of merit to their design but fell by the wayside due to slick marketing by their competitors...I guess I should have bought a Beta player and all the movies I could find....
 
I'm a fan of a mix of odd-balls and perfectly vanilla chamberings. On the odd ball side, I don't have near as many as a few here, but a few that won't leave my safe are 356win, 308Norma, 300H&H, 280 Ross and 8x56R. On the other hand 223rem, 30-06, and 375H&H are a few of my absolute favourites.
My list of odd-balls that I've always been interested in and would like to acquire one day includes 8x68S, 45-2.4"SS(also the 2.6" and 2 7/8" versions as well), 50-2.5"SS and 219DW.
 
My interest in different stuff emerged after getting into Schuetzen rifles. I started with a 32-30Rem as it was called, it was a predecessor of a 32RKS, made from 222super rimmed, in a #1. Then I got a barrel built for 32-40 for an 1885. And one for a Stevens 044-1/2 action I'd found, in a 218bee, which was a bit more mainstream. And I picked up an H&H rook rifle in .300Rook. I wanted to get something along the lines of a 300H&H rimmed when I got my SXS built, 7x57r and 7x65r just didn't turn my crank, wasn't enamored with an 8mm or 9.3 either. Then I got to looking at the 30R Blaser, and got one built in that. Not sure why, but, I'd like to play with a Stevens in a 28-30. Something in a necked down 30R case would perhaps be interesting in a #1 or an 1885 low wall. That'd be something in the vein of, a 6.5 or 7mm or even 270, x68R, is where it would wind up at.
 
Guess i would consider an oddball, any caliber that you could not find ammo for in anyplace short of major centers. I also think that calibers that are pretty much reloader only calibers are odd, i have tried to limit these for years.

By far the oddest caliber i have ever owned is the 350RM. Took me 8 months to find reloading supplies, ammo was unobtainium. Others that are odd for me are, 7x57, 300 rum, 375 rum, and 416 Rigby. Just not a lot of boxed ammo available in small town Kanada. Perhaps the definition of oddball will change after Barry hits the job market Jan 20.

I have never bought or fired a factory round from my 350. Had fun getting components, just beat the rules in the States and picked up brass and bullets at Kesselrings in WA when I got it. I parted with some precious new brass when a fellow CGN'er wasn't having any luck.
 
I own 3 centre fire 22's , an Anshutz 22 Hornet a Ruger 77 in 220 Swift and a Ruger No.1 in 218 Bee , sorta oddballs. Think Bee brass is made with unobtainium .

"Odd" calibers have come and gone out of my assortment.Usually the scarcity of ammo and related costs made them something to trade,still have a box or two of .22 Winchester Auto and .22 shot shells.

Is that an actual calibre? I make "30 Carbine rimmed" or what I refer to as "7.5x33R" using 32-20 brass and a 30 Carbine resizing die to shoot out of my BSA 310 Australian Cadet.
 
My 30 carb rimmed uses 32-20 brass sized in a 30m1 and shoots light wt .308 bullets in a .308 diam barrel made up on a Swiss style Martini single shot. A fun toy to shoot with a tang peep on it.
 
One of my oddballs - works just fine (others would include my 35 Whelen AI and the 50-70)

Nice. I use H&N .314" 100 grain lead wadcutters or jethunter's .314" 110 grain SWCs, and they are very accurate out of my BSA Martini Cadet.
