THE "LTR" thread

Noticed it can come loose & I'm not talking about unscrewing either...I had HWSNBN glued/epoxied both studs..

Good call. Though I've never shot my 700 VSF from a bipod yet, I noticed the swivel studs were a little loose. Think I'll glue em' in too.

I'm getting the surplus M40A1 stock, no stud at the front, so no bipod for me, but you guys are right, I had the same problem with my 700P so I used epoxy and it never came loose again.

I have to agree with Jamie, lets make this the P club!

OK Rohann, your in, "BUT", not until we see some pics of the whole rig, you waited a long time and took a lot of ribbing here so now that you finally have it, show off your pride and joy and finally shut the critics up!

So Steve, any idea when we're going to see your LTR with the M40A1 stock?
Do you have any pics of this stock? This is of course an elite organization that is not open to just any one that happens to stumble in I take it.
After all, LTR owners do have high standards; ...uh don't we?

Thanks Airborn 69, is that your stock?

Para P-12,

Mine is not here as of yet, HWSNBN is waiting for delivery on the stocks, McMillan is not aloud to release the old M40A1 stocks until the rifles are in the new M40A4 stocks, so it might be a few more months, but I do not want to use the original stock, I want to sell it as new, so I am not taking delivery of the rifle until it is complete.

Para P-12,

Your looks really nice, I see you have the Bushnell 10X tactical, that is a very popular scope, you have a pretty cool set up.

but I like how stable Varget is for High and Low Temp's

Jamie Barkwell

Varget was especially blended NOT to be affected by temperature extremes.

If you are worried about hot/cold affecting your loads, then Varget is what you want.

I use 44.5grs of Varget with a Moly coated Hornady 178gr AMAX bullet,Norma case, Fed 210M primer.Neck sized and trimmed to 2.015". I get 2720 fps out of a AMTU contour McPhee 26.5" Stainless match barrel (1 in 11.3" twist).

These powders are also good for the .308Win:

-H-BLC2
-RL-15 (The current powder used for the U.S. M118LR sniper load).
-IMR 4064
-WW-748

SKBY.

I will be trying Varget soon,I hope it can reach 2800fps with the 154gr Scenar out of my 20" barrel, hope that is.....

the best group I ever shot was with 4064....but it was all over the place with the weather....

I also thought that my best load was with 4064, then I tried BLC-2 and did even better, THEN I tried RL-15 and did even better again.

I might try varget, but I get the best velocity out of RL-15 with 165gr bullets.

Steve and Airborn 69;
That is a really ''cool'' looking stock! Any LTR would be proud to be wearing one of those! I can hardly wait to see the finished product.
Thanks for the compliment on my setup. It was a birthday gift from my family
2 years ago. Man was I surprised. My wife and son engineered the whole thing. In any event, yours should be really special when it's built!

Instead of buying an LTR, I went the "PMT" route-
Poor Man's Tactical.....:D

Simply took my Rem700 VS and had the barrel cut to 20" and re-crowned & had the reciever face trued. Also had a Dlask bolt handle installed.

Out to 300 meters it shot 0.5 MOA with my custom loads.:dancingbanana:

My PMT's last incarnation (beside it's big brother)before selling it off to fund other projects...."

I will build another one of these days...............Probably a 16" to 18" staight taper barrel on maybe a Surgeon or RPA action with a McMillan A4 or A5 stock and V-Bull mag conversion if money allows........;)

Thats what the wife always says.......:D :p  :dancingbanana: :D :p  :dancingbanana: ;)

I was looking at the RPA line of "sniper" rifles.

They have a nice 16" Covert model with a detachable rear stock.:D

Good Article on the RPA rifles in one of my copies of "Combat & Survival". Robertson Composites was making the stocks for one of their models.:)

I painted the stock the best I could to match GunSlinger's 700

IMG_3168.jpg

I really need to get a new scope for this gun...I love the Mark4 3/9x36 on the SPR but on the LTR,the short eye relief sucks...Yesterday I got a good dose of scope eye while shooting prone,(Iwas testing the 175 SMK loaded hot, this little gun likes to jump a bit....,so if anyone has a good scope to lend I would take it..:D

Jamie Barkwell

Get yourself a Mk4 LR/T 4.5-14x50; those things have a ridiculous amount of eye relief. I was getting right up there, off the bench and prone, and the thing never came near my eye.
Sorry for the wait all, but I never have time to take any bloody pictures! I'll see if I can get some time this weekend after weekend BMQ.

So guys...this "LTR" club...what if I don't have an LTR? How about just the "Remington Tactical" club? And can we make shirts???
