The M1 Garand Build Thread

Hey guys,

I have one last 308 Criterion barrel available in the order. It's standard length, short chambered and will be available mid December for $350 shipped.

Let me know if anyone needs one!

Jon

Has anyone heard anything or seen the "stock set, hardwood, replacement" sold by Numrich? Can't find anything online for reviews... Says it's made to be a precise fit and laser beam inspected/sprinkled with sparkly fairy poop to ensure you don't have to arse around custom fitting, sanding, etc.

Only reason I ask is I've read some things about sometimes having to mess with other new stocks to get them to fit (boyds for example)

Mine arrived late last week. Very good condition, quite happy with the purchase. Purchased some other stuff too, reducing shipping. All in, was ~$140. Will try and post pics tomorrow.

As promised, pictures attached. First, the operating rod, Numrich product num 408310, Operating Rod-Used, Good Condition (Manufacturer Marked Springfield Armory - SA)

Second, as others have mentioned, the BMB trigger group has some wear. As indicated, Numrich product num 1248630, Trigger Housing Assembly, Stamped (Used Very Good to Exc; Marked BMB Breda)

All gone for now!

We will bring in more in the new year.

Much appreciated. Thanks for the report :)

Getting back to you sgmacken.

Parts came in today. They're in great shape, physically. No pitting or overwhelming wear, taking in mind they are something like 50-60 years old. There's a small, insignificant dent to a corner of the bayonet lug, but the threading, and barrel lugs are all in great shape. Can't find any problems other than the need for a reblueing, or park-job.

My Numrich Op Rod came in. It's a post-WW2 (Korean War era) manufactured SA rod that measures a .5265". Some light surface rust that will disappear when it gets bead blasted prior to a repark. Tab is a nice tight fit to my receiver with only minimal peening at the corners. I'm well pleased by it.

I just got my SA bolt from Constantine; from Greece it was 11 days in shipping, pretty darn good. The bolt is new with nice Parkerizing. $82 all in, a good deal I think. Guys are paying $200-250 for U.S. M14 bolts.

Here's a photo of my bits so far; a Beretta receiver and my SA bolt. Op rod next I think, while there are still some to be had.

So far got my SA bolt from Constantine on ebay, and my Breda complete trigger group and SA oprod coming from Numrich. I'm thinking about trying to acquire a Krieger match barrel for my build. Anybody have a complete parts list? Want to slowly collect parts over the next year or so and don't want to miss any!

Thanks guys and good luck with the builds! There is going to be some deadly looking Garands coming soon!

Mystic precision can get you krieger barrel. I emailed them a couple weeks ago and I've already deleted the email but it was around $550 for a barrel and 6 months min. I believe.

I wouldn't wait to collect up the parts for a build. I would keep looking for them. Have you noticed that Numrich doesn't have all of the parts? You will also see that a lot of other parts supplier's that ship to Canada don't have all of the Garand parts either. Most of the US parts guys seem to be running out of product because everyone in America is trying to do the same thing. Build Garand Rifles or M14 rifles.
Just think about M14 rifle parts, except that there isn't anyone making Garand parts. M14 rifle's use up some of the Garand parts also.

FWIW, I think the parts that are best secured early due to diminishing supply of GI part are:

1) Op Rod.
2) follower assembly
3) Barrel
4) Gas cylinder

Pretty much everything else is more readily available right now.

Well dammit. My Numrich trigger housing assembly came (in a separate box) and it's a heavily pitted/rusted POS. Irretrievably so, maybe worse then the one earlier in this thread. Zero finish remaining and it's been wire wheeled to remove a lot of crusty rust leaving a heavily pitted surface throughout. It was a Beretta "stamped" unit.

Sending it back tomorrow with nastily worded letter. This is why I hate Numrich, they VERY often send their worst stuff out of country hoping we won't bother to return it. I've spent thousands there over the years and I still have to return probably 30% of the stuff they send for replacement. They don't care b/c they don't refund shipping.

Anyhow, we'll see what they send as a replacement :(

At least my oprod was OK.
