The M1 Garand Build Thread

Just now snapped that minty WRA trigger group closed into the stock for the very first time. ... TIGHT Fit !.

Starting to feel a certain urgency to get this rifle together and spitt'n bullets.

Decided against the 7.62 NATO cal. option ... complications, they will slow progress.
'Sides, /06 is like a good woman ... she'll always get you there.

I contacted DGR in the us to see if they could export barrels and it was a no go. I also contacted Irunguns to see if they could bring some in. They said they will try to look into it after they finish imports for this month. I am quite excited about getting my receivers built as well. I also just finished watching the AGI building a garand from a parts kit video. Pretty basic and minimal, but gives me an idea on how these things work.

I'd love to read up on accurizing, so if anyone has some good threads, please pass them along. Going to watch the armorers course too.

any idea how much one would cost (roughly) said and done?

Just a quick look at CGN sponsor Mystic Precision, he quotes $560 for a Krieger M1 Garand barrel, short chambered. Looks like he doesn't have them in stock but can order them. I've seen a few NOS SA bbls in the EE (at least, there were some earlier this week).

Way out of my ballpark, I'm looking at $300 for a barrel to keep this build in budget. I just want a decent shooter, not a match grade target rifle.

Imay have a coupleofnos barrels.these are short chambered andbrandnew.
They needtobe reamed.
PM ifinterested.

@john@

what does not that cheap mean about the criterion barrel? DGR in the USA has them and they said cost for them is around $170. Shipping, tax and brokerage shouldn't be so "expensive" if they are being purchased directly from the manufacturer.

If we could get barrels around the $300 mark that would be totally fair.

I agree. I was tired of looking around and trying to get US dealers to even talk to me. So saved myself hassle and time and went for it.

I know what you mean. If anyone knows of a dealer who has the export permits I can work my connections and get some imported at a fair price so we don't get raped. I've tried emailing criterion directly. I asked dgr and I'm not sure who else to go to.

It was fun man;) can wait to see the finished product;)
And he's a good dude! Haha. Thanks for the barrel install. Much appreciated.
