The M1 Garand Build Thread

The op rod is the Achilles heel of this Great Garand Scavenger Hunt! Unless you're one of the lucky ones who have one or two stashed away, we're all going to have to bite the bullet and spend big $$$ getting one, and in many cases sight-unseen. I think if you were a Cdn gun dealer wanting to cash-in on the completion of the 200 or so receivers that just flooded the market, you would import a crate or two of op rods in from the US. And I'm in for two if you do!!!

I think I'm going to wait and see what, if anything, happens with this South Korean Garand import. Hopefully some part kits come in with the rifles.

When the Danish Garands came into Canada a large number were converted into parts kits, less the receiver, and then exported to the US. US law prevented the receivers from being imported into the US. The Danish surplus Garand receivers which are now being sold for $49.95 are leftovers from this parting out exercise. As folks are finding out, the stripped receivers are cheap. All of the other parts are what costs.

What I don't understand, is the limited or non-existent reproduction market for one of most iconic battle rifles of all time. What gives?

@ridgearms:

Given the crap shoot that is numrich, expect to have to have the parts re-parkerized when you do your build. If it turns out not to be required, bonus.

Thanks for the advice. Tbh, I was planning on reparking everything anyways as I figured the receivers I get will probably be worn. I am only afraid of parts that will need more than sand blasting and a repark, like the trigger assembly one member received. That, would not be worth it in my opinion.

Looking at the US, it seems like they have a healthy mix of surplus parts, repro parts and repair services to get them by. Us.....well hahaha, we are all feeling the pain with these garand builds.

Has anyone else here noticed the spike in prices from dealers that will ship to Canada? It would appear that they know we are desperate for parts and those who have them either will not ship anywhere other than the Continental 48 or gouge for both the parts and the shipping.

FUDGE !!!! I'm sorry Don Kael... !!! I read all the thread... Probably with my head in my butt

Thanks again for all they information you gave us !!!

''The United States Government has export restrictions in place for items such as barrels, barrel blanks, bolt assemblies, cylinders,
receivers, frames, bolts, high capacity magazines, shotgun magazines, shotgun magazine extension tubes, shotgun complete trigger mechanisms, etc.''

No problem Duff, just pointing it out. As far as importing from anywhere other than the US? Depends on the country's export rules. We have no import laws, so we're good to go. It's up to you to make sure you can have a part exported.

As far as I know, most European countries have no export laws. Don't quote me on that, though.

got my trig groups and opp rods from numrich today all serviceable stuff. one as new trig group and one as new opp rod, the rest used good. im happy enough as these will be shooters not beauty contest guns

Actually, many of the M1 and M1903 parts you see on the net, e-bay or Numrich are reproductions or outright fakes. Things like stacking swivels or sight parts. This is generally why I often prefer used parts vs. "unissued", which in some instances means fake.

Yep, Numrich cleared all my orders today, about $250 worth of prods and trigger groups. Definitely not capped at $100 like they used to impose.

Is anyone in Greater Van planning on ordering from Numrich soon?
Can I piggyback a stock on your order?
This is not a Group Buy, as I am not the one collecting money. Instead, I am offering to pay out upfront.

Im in surrey and I bought two receivers. I am waiting to see some more pics of the parts people are getting from numrich. I might order in a few weeks.

Good to know, I'll stay in touch.
I'm in Langley. :)
