The M1 Garand

Desperately seeking M-1 ammo...

I recently acquired a very nice M-1, and I'll be needing lots of ammo for it. So I now have two:d M-1s in my..."collection"(?).
I've installed an adjustable gas plug in the first one, and that worked fine. This new one is all totally arsenal correct.
Now I'm finding any 30-06 harder to locate than it once was.
I did get 4 boxes of Horny (expensive) and some Federal
designated as M-1 specific. Now I forgot where I found them!
I know there's lots of members who can steer me to a few reliable sources. Ideally, I'd like 'ball', but I'll take anything that will allow me to shoot this rifle.
Oh, I did find two excellent sources (M-1 sites) in the USA--
mouth-watering selections of ammo, etc, but... "may not ship to Canada"! Arrrgh!
I've got all the gear I need to begin reloading ("winter project")....
Help me to find some ammo.
thx

Being here in the US. PPU Garand Ammo is getting scarce at Cabelas and the big outdoor stores as well. I have had good prices going online with SGammo and MidwayUSA. AmmoSeek is also another great way to find ammo. Can you guys still use package forwarders if you order online from US retailers? With that said I have started reloading 30.06. Hornady reload book has an entire section dedicated to Garand reloads. Good Luck.

You cannot export ammo from the US without a very expensive and hard to get ammo permit. It is not even worth trying. ITAR rules prohibit export of ammo, powders, receivers, barrels, mags, and pretty much any major firearm component - unless you have a permit. It's only worth the permit if you are a business.

You may be able to import projectiles though... not sure on that.

Where from and how much was the gas plug?

Look to BROWNELLS.

QUOTE=AedGinger;17647857]Where can a person get a ported gas plug in Canada?[/QUOTE]

Well, I've had good luck at BROWNELLS.
First, I successfully purchased one and installed it in my first M1.
So I ordered two more for my next two M1s. I've not installed them yet, but ~
two weeks later, I was surprised to find two more in the Post! IDK, I must've "double-clicked" on the second order. Then I had FIVE of the little pluggers!
Fortunately, it was a 'win-win', since both of my local M1 buddies were about to order plugs, so they paid me for the ones I got by mistake.

BTW-- I find the included instructions confusing but, after some fiddling, I was able to translate them into reality.
Oh, and that aftermarket gas plug wrench that's available at some other suppliers? It will not fit into the Schusters' grooves. But it definitely DOES fit the OEM plug (what's that about?). I had to resort to my largest honkin' fat, flatty, screwdriver to get the Schuster to seat even hand-tight. But this first one appears to be working well. Let's see how the next two perform.

Ja, BROWNELLS is the place to get them if you're Canadian.
Try double-clicking! q;0}
