If one of you suppliers can't provide me with a half decent cheek pad for my M1A, I will take this fine, pristine sweetheart - and IMPROVISE!!!!:mad:

Have any of you guys actually 'duct taped' a home made cheek pad to your scoped M14? I am loathe to do it but good grief - it seems to me that the pads that are out there are hokey pieces of junk - and the one or two good models aren't available in Canada. I saw some guy on Youtube that had done it and he said it worked great - but it sure looked like hell.

Is duct tape my only option here?
 
I put a Triad Tactical cheek riser on mine. Didn't give me nearly enough height, so I shaped a piece of 1X2, and stuck it under the cheek pad. Works real nice, and no visible duct tape...

There are all sorts of options out there for cheek pads. I picked up two leather ones for my M14's from Springfield the only problem is they are such a light tan they are almost white, but because it is leather I am sure they could be dyed easily enough.
The problem with tape is the pigment in the tape will slowly seep into the wood or other material. I bought a used Telecaster Bass guitar once that somebody had used duct tape on to fashion a belt buckle protector on the back, there was a permanent discolored large flaw on the back of the guitar forever after I removed it.
What I am saying is look for an appropriate option unless you are a dufus like Red Green!

That's what I used until I found out that there was a cheek riser maker just 15 minutes from my house. I paid him a visit and that was the end of that. I hear good things about TacPro though too.
 
I just had mine put into a Blackfeather RS and a Magpul PRS solved this problem for me :)

Before that, I had one of those Voodoo cheek rests. It was pretty garbage in this application: bulky, shifted around lots, and didn't attach very well to the buttstock.
 
+1 for both Coyotem1a and Triad Tactical stock pack. I have both.

If you buy the Triad stock pack you'll need to do the 1x1 trick. Even with the extra height kits you can order you're still too low to get much use out of their stock pack. I need at least 1" to get to the bottom of my Vortex optic.

The Coyote 1.25" cheek riser I bought is still a smidge short, but it's quite solid. Closed-cell foam with some beefy straps you can really tighten down so that it doesn't move. If you don't want to bubba your stock it's a pretty 'solid' choice. :p Plus he makes 'em right here in the GVA and is an honest guy to deal with.
 
I have tried lots. Today I say that for a Boyds or USGI stocked M14 type rifle there is only one choice - the Coyote M1A. Made in Coquitlam BC and Trev is awesome to deal with.
 
I stole the one from my Western rig for my Marlin lever action and cut a strip from a thin kneeling pad to put under it. Spacer strip is not really noticable and being held on with lace it made the riser adjustable to the stock contour.image.jpg
