Hello All,

I have been looking for some time for an M95M Stutzen carbine in 7.92X57mm Mauser (8mm Mauser) and have had no luck. Are they around and availiable? What do they usually go for?
I have heard rumours of some kind of issue with the extractor being very weak on these, and breaking (without any easy replacement). Is this myth or truth?

If someone has one and would love to share pictures, let's see them gents! If you are looking to sell one, you might have a prospective buyer!

Cheers,

I had a nice original one on the EE for months, and I think I got two inquiries in all that time. It was priced to sell, too.

There is no issue with the extractor, it's the people using the rifle. The extractor on ALL Mannlicher M95 type rifles and carbines is designed to feed from the magazine, like the Mauser and Lee-Enfield. Chambering a round directly, then closing the bolt, strains the extractor, causing it to distort and sometimes break. Use them as intended, and they function flawlessly.

That's good for the M95, but this is the place for the M95M.

FWIW they are out there. We have three of them photographed at milsurps.com, all from the Ottawa area.

Sporters are quite common, but full-wood are scarce and stock sets practically non-existent - in Canada.

The situation in the US is almost opposite to that in Canada (or was 3-4 years ago). They have many full-wood rifles missing the extractor and/or magazine "insert" (I dare not call it a clip) but few sporters, and we have many sporters with extractor and insert intact, but few full-wood rifles. Hmmm.

I got creative and ended up with two stock sets from the US - one from Michigan and one from Utah. One I bought for something like $150 after the guy abandoned hope in finding the missing parts, and the other I did a straight swap of extractor and insert for wood and fittings, resulting in two happy guys.
