The Mad Ogre: Why I Hate The AR15

Who cares? Gazillion of people were killed by M16 and AR.

And more are being killed in this second in the professional hands of American, Canadian, British, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, French, Israelis, Philippinos, Italian, Australian, Greek, Polish, Czeh.....

I mean, if one guy cannot handle it, it does not mean it is stupid.

Craploads were killed by machetes not too long ago - just what is your point??

Even AR armourers are the first to say it's a flawed design for a combat tool.

But since it's restricted here ...we are just using it at the range. So it's not a problem. Yeah it's true it's a real nice doll. I would want one.

But it would not be my choice on a battlefield.

This seems to be a good compromise:

For those that missed shot show.

The ability to clear a house walk out and pop an insurgent between the eyes on the street at 250M with no concerns of lethality loss due to the short barrel.........priceless.

I think the AR-15 is the 1911 of the rifle world... some don't like it, wile the owners that have a well built one love it. :) Im in the process of aquiring one, I will definately put it through its paces, and find out for myself.

The C7/C8/M16/M4 is doing just fine. I have personally carried one in harms way on two occasions overseas and have no concerns what so ever. The Taliban have been responding well to a regular dose of 5.56mm therapy.

This whole thread reminds me of a Monty Python skit....."I came in here for an argument.....no sorry this is abuse, arguments are down the hall".....

"2) It works fine if you clean it!
Answer: A service rifle should still work fine even when you don't have the time to clean it. Like when people are shooting at you. If it gets too muddy you should be able to open the action, piss into it to rinse the mud chunks out of it, and be back in the fight."

I laughed pretty hard when I read that one. :p I remember alot of that stuff he talked about from the pipe cleaners and q-tips and inspection.

+1

I always notice the M16FOW's detractors have never carried one in combat...

The real weapon of mass destruction is the AK47 - it's probably killed more people than any other weapon out there.

Im not a combat troopee, but armchair... This is what Ive been told and seen here and there. Several people that I know that were reg force during the transition either didnt and never liked the ar's over the fn's. However, I know of others that do.

Anyway, firsts ar's that were issued weren't chromed and not issued cleaning kits. Also, the ammo at the time was CRAP and caused a lot of fouling. As such, it was a rifle set up to fail. Cleaning kits were issued, ammo got better, ejector cover installed, and barrel was chromed. Hey, imagine that, it functioned a whole lot better. Perhaps the HK solution to gas system will be adopted to clear up the crud from getting in the action.

While personally Im in agreement that the .223 round isnt the best, neither is .308. Something in between perhaps but thats my opinion and Im not going to argue about it. Both have their merits and detractions and there's lots of people that know a whole lot more about it than I do. Read their stuff and make your own opinion. The likelyhood of change at this point is unlikely due to the massive logistical change and cost. Also NATO would have to change as well. Not bloody likely in the near future.

xm-8 is dead dead dead. Be surprised to see that resurface... Personally I dont know why bullpups havent been adopted more widely if compactness is desired rather than the traditional setup. But Im a armchair...

To make a point however, the SAS pick the M-16 as their weapon of choice. If it where a piece of crap, wouldnt they carry something else. Mind the L85 new enfield rifle before the hk mods... quite understandable.

And I do own one, and a m-14 as well. Wished I hadn't passed on that FN years ago, and Daewoo Maxi-2, and AR-10B, and Steyr Aug, and L85 complete with optics... Sigh...
