While doing my Tac-21 build, I found the the 56mm Objective of my S&B PM-II was almost resting on the top rail of the fore end.

There is just enough room if I take the Butler Creek scope cap off.........

I mentioned this to Lazlo and today while he was over picking up some Tac-21s I Cera-Coated for him, he brought this new fore end over that has part of the top rail removed for large Obj. scopes......

With the Regular fore end.......

and the new cut down fore end...... (waiting to go into the oven)

I test fit my scope before Gun-Koting and there more then enough space between the fore end and obj!!!! :D

This is only an issue with regular rings. I ran into the same problem with my AR10 and NF 5.5-22 scope. I had to go 50mm instead of 56. But... I know a 56mm objective works on a flat top with the Burris PEPRE mount (quick release). The other AR mounts may also work.

The AR Tranny err MDT 21 kit mimicks the flat top AR. You're more likely to find large scopes on the AR10 version. Most these days AR10 rifles have flat continuous rails. AR10, LMT MWS, KAC SR25 etc. You should be able to find which mounts work.

That being said it's nice to have an option so you can use regular rings. Looks pretty good too. A completely smooth top hand guard would also look cool. SL8 ish.

I didn't/don't want to go to an AR style quick release mount......I personally don't believe in QD mounts for long range precision type rifles.....;)

If worse came to worse, I would have just taken the rail to work and threw it on the milling machine and milled a section of rail down.........Then this already modified rail was dropped into my lap.........:D

I could have gotten away with the regular rail if I ditched the Scope covers.........

That setup you have works and looks good.

I personally think QR has come a long way. I'm no longer so worried about it. A few years ago I wouldn't have even considered it. These days I won't rule it out. There are a number of good ones now.

The main reason of course I suggested it was they provide the perfect height, versatility for eye relief and the bell clears the rails.

That being said I still tend to go with rings for long distance as well. For the obvious reasons of nothing moving etc. But starting to wonder of that view is dated these days.
