The Medium Bore Thread

DSCN0124_zpsyn80tecb.jpg

Ten pounds worth of 404 Jeffery on a P14.
Built by my Brother as a surprise for my 60th ten yrs ago.
Bevan King barrel lots of goodies and is a tackdriver with practically any bullet from 450 gr. on down.
Irons are sighted for 55 yds. with a 450 Woodleigh.

I really like that. I know that you're not supposed to covet thy neighbour's wife, but can you covet the guy in BC's 404? Cuz I'm all about coveting that rifle.

Now if Photobucket would smarten the hell up I could post some pics of my own.

Here we go.

Proof that you can take a medium out in the rain, even without Ardent. Myself and back40sniper in South Africa in 2007. Charlie's toting his backward-safety 375 H&H and your truly with my Ruger RSM 416 Rigby.

And in the game fields of RSA.

And myself and Eugene with my bison and my 366 Wagner in 2011. Eugene was still fairly happy at that point. 10 hours later...

Poor man here, no exotic locale's or game. The wheels sorta fell of her ( Patch ) just when I was getting the urge.
Got a Boone and Crockpot Bull elk last fall ( couple of deer too IIRC ) with the 9.3 x 57 Mauser.
Lots of deer with the 38-55 hiding in the back ( too small, but 2 rifles don't 'stack'...and it's got lots Panache... therefore I thought I'd use it as the 3rd leg).
And the Ruger No. 1-T in 375 Weatherby is as yet...unblooded. Well a coyote that was after the chickens, but that's not worth bragging about, lol.
Good thing I got off my butt and dug them out, the unheard of local Monsoon Season was trying to wreak havoc. Never seen such a thing in this country...3 in 1, do your thing!
Cheers

Nice! We NEED pics of the elk here too though, preferably with the rifle.

GF wasn't a great picture taker. Got one but it's quiet fuzzy

Edit, it wasn't even with that rifle. Was holding the 30-40 Krag that I used for the Coupe De Grace...got to let others have a turn you know?

Guess i am going to have to drag out a camera, take some shots, and post the sibling of Kevan's 404. Bought off Kevan and his son Chuck, his late brothers Buffalo gun now wearing a Nikon Monarch 1-4 african, in 416 Rigby and with a Bevan King barrel.

My other mediums are a 45-70 Guide, 338 Model 1917, 338 Bar Safari, and Rem700 LSS in 375 Rum.

I have a feeling it went to someone who will appreciate it.
The Rigby was his favourite Bison rifle of all his builds, I have a 416 Taylor he also built and hunted Bison with but he preferred the Rigby.
I'd be willing to bet that your 416 Rigby is one of very few that has bagged a Dall Sheep.
He built a Sheep rifle for a hunt that he wasn't happy with, opening day was closing in on him so he packed up his old reliable Rigby and brought home a beautiful Dall Sheep with.
Personally, I thought he was nuts packing that cannon up where he went but he was a tough little character and enjoyed a challenge.
His Wife accompanied him on most Bison hunts but he also did solo ones, whats more fun than butchering a Bison in - 35 weather and packing it home ?
Whatever scars your Rigby wears it has come by them honestly and I hope you will be as happy with it as he was..

Heres my 416 Taylor, built by my Brother over 25 yrs. ago.
An 03A3 Springfield action, Douglas Premium octagon barrel, multi-leaf rear sight and many other goodies, stock by him also.
Its a real tackdriver but you know you are shooting something when you squeeze the trigger.
I have yet to blood it but it has taken a Bison and several Bear.
