It is really nice that the Chilliwack club still remembers Elwin Fehr, he was a really nice guy and one heck of a revolver shooter. We had some good times back in the mid '80's.

Garand, You are totally correct, Elwin was probably one of the, if not THE, nicest guy I ever met, and was taken from us FAR too soon by an EXTREMELY rare disease. In fact, it was so rare he told me that at any given time, only about 6 people in the entire WORLD contract it. It builds up protein (I THINK ?) around all your major organs, and quite quickly crushes them all, he contributed his entire remains to 'Science' on microscope slides, to all the Medical Schools in the world, to study. His wife told me that all they buried of him was a lock of his reddish hair, and if you remember, his favourite 'yellow'ish' leather jacket. After his passing, as an example of his 'niceness' , if you ever admired any of his equipment (in my case, his shotgun speed-feeders), someone would arrive at your front door WITH said piece of equipment, that Elwin had bequeathed to YOU ! THAT'S a HELL of a guy !
I started this Match many years ago, primarily to support his Widow (who's name escapes me, Kathy ?) and their children. Quite a few years later, she came to me at Mission Rod and Gun, who had taken 'The Memorial' over as there just weren't enough 'Practical' shooters (ONE, in fact) left at Chilliwack to run it. She told me that, 'Elwin was a 'sucker' for any Insurance Salesman that approached him, and his family was VERY well taken care of as a result, Mortgage paid, College paid, etc., and frankly didn't NEED the money, and to contribute it elsewhere.' So, a vote was taken, I was for 'Breast Cancer Research', but was outvoted in favour of 'BC Children's Hospital', so that's where our proceeds went.
I was not a member of Chilliwack Fish and Game at the time, but upon moving to Chilliwack, I discovered that not only did the 'Memorial' 'expire' during my 'divorce mandated' (i.e. all MONEY going to Lawyers) absence from shooting, but also that Chilliwack Fish and Game had a long standing bursary in Elwin's name at the local High School ! So thusly, in Elwin's memory, and that of other 'Active Shooters' who left us before their time, which is why it was also voted on to change the name to a more 'encompassing' name, 'The Memorial', we are 're-booting' it .
I, for one, and others like yourself, will NEVER forget Elwin, and can only WISH I could be as "nice" a guy as Elwin was (shooting a revolver as well as he did would be nice too !), he truly was an inspiration to us all .
As an aside, some are trying to find his favourite revolver, a S&W Model 67 Combat Masterpiece, to attend too, we THINK we know who Elwin bequeathed it to, but finding him, and if he still has it, is a challenge.
Thank you for your kind words, I totally agree with you, and am glad you too remember Elwin, I hope you, and any of your 'Contacts', will be able to come to this and future 'Memorials'.
All the best,
Drew

Curmudgeon, Not particularly, IDPA targets for ease of scoring (and I hate those stupid 'Politically Correct' IPSC 'turtle shell' targets !), but no 'Concealment' required, 'run what you brung' or HAVE, basically. Probably have some Pepper Poppers, so I wouldn't suggest anything smaller than 9mm power. Standard safety, muzzle direction, etc. rules, probably divide into 'Open' ( Optics, PPC Customs, moon clips, 8 rd.r's) and 'Standard' ( 6-shot, iron sights, speed loaders), and 'Ladies' for classes. Priority is Safety, Fun, dusting off the 'roundy-round' guns, remembering our friends that 'passed' before their 'time', and blowing the cobwebs off some of the 'Old Timers' who have semi-retired from our ranks ! May even throw in a proverbial 'Steel Chicken' just to annoy those with a 'stick up their a**', target wise ! (Hey, a rabid Steel Chicken can be dangerous ! 'Bird Flu' maybe ?)
Just, safety, fun, re-connecting, and remembrance. Also have a bit of a 'Prize Table' developing, strictly on a 'draw-out-of-the-hat' basis, for all registrants, even any semi-auto shooters that may not HAVE a round gun.
Cheers, Drew

Hi Drew, how did the shoot go?,,,
Yeah, after over a years work, I just barely survived it , as many people noticed, I was ‘running on fumes’ ! I’m really glad so many ‘chipped in, and helped out’, or I probably wouldn’t have ! They ARE a great bunch, especially when you get the ‘Old Timers’ together ! AND I retained my long held ‘reputation’ for having great ‘prize tables’, and starting and finishing ON time !
Had lot’s more people than I reasonably expected, about 70 !
Personally thought it was hilarious that out of ALL those people, there was only 1 guy that didn’t get SOME thing, off the prize table , but we gave him a HUGE round of applause !
Imagine, people coming from Quesnel, Victoria, Pemberton, and even Calgary, for a ONE day ‘Club’ match ! I asked one of the ‘Victorians’ WHY they came all the way to Chwk. , he told me they knew this other ‘Old Timer’, and he had told them ‘If Drew’s putting on a Match , you want to be there !’ Guess my ‘reputations still ‘intact’ !

- Agreed! More than intact. Legendary ! T.B.

-Great show yesterday, thx very much for all your hard work so we could enjoy ourselves, already looking forward to next year’s bigger & better version!! K.F.

- Drew,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for putting on the match last Sunday. I know more than most how much work is involved. The five stages were excellent. It was nice to just get out and shoot and not have to worry about being the facilitator…I had a great time.
If it’s held again next year, I definitely plan to participate R.R.

So, judging by the ‘reviews’, I’d say it went pretty well ! ? Ya, think ? Thanks again to ALL the Contributors, Sponsors, Helpers, and Volunteers, and especially the 'Old Timers' that hadn't shot in 20 yrs. !!!! Betcha' Elwin, Jennifer, Wilf, Rod, Bill, my GOOD friend Gordon Wm. Davis, 'Uncle Jeff', and too many others were smilin' down on us that day !

Thanks for asking, guys,
Best,
Drew
