Lately i have had a strange fascination with the 9x18 makarov but do not have a prohib license to get a surplus one. How happy are owners of the restricted length baikal versions and what can you tell me about its pros and cons?

Thanks !

Well the one I have in .380 acp is a tac driver and alot of fun, always turns head at the range.
Not to mention that james bondish connection too.
love it and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Can't imagine the 9x18 one any different :)

I wanted one too, but it is nigh impossible to come up with an original prohib Makarov. Then once you find it you need to get the restricted barrel made and installed. I got a quote last year, and it was going to cost about $290 dollars...

In the end I picked up a Baikal. I LOVE it. It is very accurate and very small. It looks like a European hockey player as it has HUGE white lettering etched into the side. I also picked up one of the cool spetznaz holsters that #### it during the draw. I've managed to not shoot my toes off yet!!

I picked it up in 9x18 as .380 costs almost twice as much!

I highly recommend it!

I have a 1987 Bulgarian in 9mm Mak. Looks good, has a reasonable trigger pull and shoots well - what's not to like! Had a FEG PA-63 but got rid of it as I wasn't fond of the alloy frame - managed to scratch it almost every time I'd disassemble it for cleaning.

It is a blow back action, so not strong enough for the Luger round. The 9x18 has plenty of snap in the light FEG framed version. More comfortable in the steel ones.

The FEG is not a PM Mak but a Walther PP clone chambered in 9x18mm

Ok guys so i got a baikal version and im having issues. The trigger is so sloppy and loose. it move left/right forward and back and if i shake the gun the trigger bar rattles. i think the pin hole where the trigger meets the bar has too large a hole and is not holding it tight?. also the safety is SEIZED. i used a rubber mallet move it to safe then all the way up for removal and gave it a good cleaning/lube with no improvement. any ideas?
